KT Rolster remains undedeated in the tournament
A beautiful story comes to an end, another continues. In a quarter-final between the two outsiders of the competition, KT Rolster outclassed CTBC Flying Oyster with a clean sweep (3-0) and qualified for the Worlds semifinals where they will meet Gen.G. This is already the best run in KT Rolster's history, who had never been able to go beyond the quarterfinals in their three previous appearances in the most prestigious competition.
Are you surprised by KT's performance today ?
For CFO, the beautiful story of the LCP team comes to an end after a brilliant year. Three regional titles and three international competitions, the team leaves the tournament with their heads held high. It was the first time in ten years that a team from the Pacific region had reached the final stage.
An outstanding performance
After finishing their Swiss stage with a 3-0 record, KT had been patiently waiting for almost two weeks to play again. CFO took a bit more time to join them despite their 2-0 start, but this matchup between the two surprises of this first phase hinted at a close match. KT quickly made it clear that this would not be the case. With a first draft focused on Mun "Cuzz" U-chan's Wukong, KT suffocated CFO from the start. By neutralizing Yu "JunJia" Chun-chia's impact from the beginning, KT quickly gained the upper hand in the early clashes and left CFO with no chance to come back into the game, which simply got stat-checked in all the teamfights.
In the second game, CFO decides to bring in Hsu "Rest" Shih-chieh and first pick an Azir for Tsai "HongQ" Ming-hong. Unfortunately for him, the young Taiwanese midlaner, player of the year in the LCP, will go through hell in his midlane. Faced with Gwak "Bdd" Bo-sung's Orianna and Jeong "Peter" Yoon-su's omnipresence, CFO once again cannot express themselves, and KT rolls over them just like in the first game to grab a win in just 24 minutes. Bdd finishes with 100% kill participation and a perfect KD/A of 6/0/15.
In the third game, CFO continues to try by putting Chiu "Doggo" Tzu-chuan on a Caitlyn. But Bdd responds by picking his Zoe, which had already helped him reach the Worlds semifinals four years ago with Gen.G by defeating Cloud9 by the same score (3-0). If CFO manages to create suspense with a drake and a won teamfight, KT will once again prove to be surgical and crush the last hopes of the Taiwanese team to win this final match in 32 minutes.
A team can dream
KT Rolster thus joins the Worlds semi-finals as the last team to have conceded no defeats during the competition. Standing in their way is a wall in the form of tournament favorite Gen.G, who just eliminated Hanwha Life Esports. A little over a month ago, KT pulled off the feat of qualifying for Worlds by beating Gen.G during the LCK playoffs. They will need to repeat this feat if the team wishes to continue their dream and reach the final of the competition. It will be followed this Saturday. Until then, the other quarter-final matches continue. G2 Esports will face Top Esports tomorrow, while Anyone's Legends will challenge T1 on Friday.
