For the second time this year, Riot Games is aiming to shake up and enhance the viewer experience. Just like during the First Stand tournament earlier this season, theyâre using an international stage â this time the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational â to introduce a brand-new HUD. This updated version builds on the
heavily criticized First Stand prototype, aiming not only to refine the broadcast experience but to visually modernize
League of Legends as a whole.
The
First Standâs HUD rollout in March drew plenty of heat. While Riotâs goals were clear â clarity, adaptability, and accessibility â the result didnât quite land. Crucial information became harder to read. The interface, meant to streamline, felt disorganized. And the overall aesthetic seemed strangely disconnected from
Leagueâs established identity. Riot Games had quickly made some initial adjustments during the competition.
The MSI 2025 version of the HUD is not a total overhaul, but it is a significant refinement. The scoreboard has been cleaned up, with better gold tracking and crisper kill counts. Player panels are less noisy and easier to scan with the eye. There is no more information on the side of the screen, a setup they already tried during First Stand, grouping runes, health, and XP bars at the bottom of the screen. Cameras of the players are guaranteed to be "cleaner" and thinner as well, to fit in. Everything should also be adapted to remain readable, whether you are watching it through a computer screen, a TV, or your phone.
