League of Legends division ahead of the 2027 season. The legendary European organisation had a disastrous 2026 season with many fans and viewers labeling it as the worst
LEC season in the organisation’s tenured history.
The team managed to make only one playoff, the Spring Split, across all three splits with a historic failure in the Summer Split. This was the first time in the organisation’s history where the team missed the Summer Split playoffs and the first time in nearly a decade where Fnatic will not be present at Worlds.
A new general manager to revitalize Fnatic
Fnatic have started the offseason early and have their eyes set on recruiting a new General Manager for the League of Legends team for the 2027 season. The last two seasons saw the Chief Gaming Officer, Patrik “cArn” Sättermon, act as an interim General Manager.
The addition of a permanent GM is a great change in the right direction. The organisation will also hold an X Space on September 21st at 5 PM CEST with cArn and the Vice President of Esports Franchises and Ecosystems, Xavient to reflect on the poor season, discuss the approaches to the offseason and answer important questions.
Over the past couple of years, Fnatic’s League of Legends division has drawn sustained criticism over poor managerial decisions, questionable roster changes, and internal turmoil across various rosters. A fresh face that can steer the sinking ship to a better path is the first step to redemption for the organisation.
Expectations for the 2027 season
With a terrible end to 2026, all expectations from the dedicated Fnatic fans are that the reset button will be hit this offseason to prepare for a fresh start next year. However, nothing is set in stone as of now as it is still very early into the offseason.
Nevertheless, it can be expected that Fnatic is looking to make serious changes to return to the top, a place the organisation was always associated with until the past few years. A competitive Fnatic roster that could help the organisation return to form would be wonderful for the LEC’s competition that are often dominated by two teams at best.
The overall health of the region would also improve if a legacy organisation like Fnatic can reinvigorate hope for their fans and draw more eyes. This offseason will, without a doubt, be one of the most important chapters in Fnatic’s League of Legends history.
