Invictus Gaming are one best-of-five away from MSI
As the LPL Split 2 nears its end, Invictus Gaming continue their impressive lower bracket run with a dominant 3-0 victory over Team WE. WE bow out in fourth place after a surprising playoff run that saw them eliminate both JD Gaming and Top Esports. IG, meanwhile, are on a hot streak—rebounding from an initial 3-0 loss to Bilibili Gaming by edging out FunPlus Phoenix, Weibo Gaming, and now sweeping Team WE to move just one best-of-five away from MSI.
The first game of the series was the longest and most chaotic, lasting 44 minutes with a total of 40 kills. Both teams were relentless in their skirmishes, but it was IG who managed to edge out the win. Song "Rookie" Eui-jin earned MVP honors with a standout performance on Ahri, finishing 4/1/20. He was nearly unkillable and soaked up immense pressure from WE throughout the game, playing a key role in securing the series opener for IG.
Game two was much more straightforward. Zhao "Jiejie" Li-Jie completely took over on Trundle, finishing deathless with over 90% kill participation. His jungle dominance paved the way for IG to secure a second consecutive win on red side. The trend continued in game three, with IG on red side again and Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok locking in Nidalee for the eighth time this split. He delivered another strong showing, finishing second in damage behind his AD carry. It was a coordinated and confident team effort, with TheShy and Jiejie finding great synergy to punch IG’s ticket to a rematch against BLG.
Only two best-of-fives remain in the LPL. While Anyone's Legend have already secured their spot and are comfortably waiting in the grand final, all eyes now turn to Friday, June 13, when IG and BLG will clash in what promises to be a much closer series than their previous encounter on May 31, where BLG swept IG 3-0.
The winner of this lower final will not only qualify for the MSI in Canada but also advance to the LPL Split 2 grand final against AL. That final will carry double stakes: it will crown the Chinese champion and determine which of the two MSI-qualified teams heads straight to the Main Stage, and which one will have to battle through the Play-In.
