. After defeating Anyone’s Legend in the quarter-finals and, more importantly, T1 in the semi-finals, the Blue Wall suffered a heavy defeat this Sunday in the final of the Esports World Cup’s
League of Legends tournament,
falling 0-3 to Dplus KIA.
Following this one-sided loss in the final — the third final defeat of the year for KC after their two LEC setbacks against G2 Esports —
spoke to
Sheep Esports for a few minutes. The French AD Carry, who was playing in front of a home crowd more than any other player at the EWC in Paris, expressed his disappointment following the defeat.
Coming out of the game, do you feel more disappointed by the defeat or satisfied with the overall result of the tournament?
Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert: "Obviously, right after the game, I feel much more disappointed by the defeat in the grand final. Especially because we lost in a pretty one-sided manner. We never really felt like we had control over the series, and they were simply much better than us today. And all of this happened in front of our fans, so we are obviously very disappointed to have let them down. There are people who travelled, people who paid for their tickets, people who came to support us, and so on. So, of course, we are extremely disappointed that we could not even give our fans a single game. After that, obviously, there are positives to take away from this tournament. There are a lot of positives, and we should not forget that. But today, at this moment, the disappointment is definitely what stands out the most.
How would you explain this difference between the two teams? They were very proactive and took the initiative in many plays. Did you feel overwhelmed?
Caliste: Dplus is a very, very good team, with players who are individually very strong. They have young players who are not afraid to play aggressively and take the initiative when they feel there is an opportunity. They also have
, who brings a lot of experience. So I think they are a very formidable team, and we saw that throughout this EWC. They simply came in extremely well prepared and took much better advantage of the opportunities they had.
What are your thoughts on your opponent , who won the Finals MVP award today?
Caliste: Smash is a very good AD Carry. He also seems like a fun and funny person. Today, he played extremely well. From what I have seen of his games throughout the tournament, he has looked very consistent. He is also a relatively young player, so I will probably face him again at some point during my career. I hope to see him competing at the highest level again. I think he was excellent today and fully deserved his MVP award.
If you had to take away one thing from the EWC, what would it be?
Caliste: Individually, if I had to take away one thing from the EWC, it would be that I need to keep trusting myself and continue working on improving myself. I think that worked really well for me during this tournament. Aside from the grand final, I am very happy with my games and with my performance throughout the event."
