Esports World Cup. Dismantling
in front of the French crowd (3-0) after a remarkable tournament run, DK have sent a clear message to the rest of the world ahead of the second half of the season.
For
, who has remained with the organization ever since its first golden era, the title carries particular significance. Following the victory, the Korean midlaner spoke with
Sheep Esports about the triumph and what it means to him.
What’s your first feeling after the final victory?
Heo “ShowMaker” Su: “This is a victory that I have been waiting for in a long time, so I'm really excited right now.
It’s your first international title win since Worlds 2020. What does it mean for you to finally win another one?
ShowMaker: Winning always means a lot. But since it's been a long time, winning this means that I am still competitive in this scene, so it really is a lot to me. So yeah, I think it will motivate me as a player for a long time.
Before the tournament, KC Kim “Canna” Chang-dong said that he wanted to play against DK because it was his former team. Were you also excited to play against him today?
ShowMaker: Yeah, it's a very meaningful thing that I get to play against my former teammate at the highest level. That being said, I was there to fist bump Canna, and he actually said to me, "Congratulations." So yeah, it means really a lot to me, and yeah, I was really glad to have a match with a former teammate.
What is the most important thing your team should learn from this experience at EWC?
ShowMaker: The most important thing that we learned from this experience is actually that coming into international land here, we got to meet a lot of teams in a lot of regions, so their play style is very diverse and we get to experience a lot of that. So, with that in mind, we actually got to have a chance to experience that kind of thing and before Worlds. So I think that was the biggest thing we have learned, and I think that's the biggest thing that we'll keep for the future.
What did you think about the French crowd today? Because a lot of fans were rooting for KC, so what did it feel to play against the local team?
ShowMaker: I'm a big fan of football, and I know that football also has a really big fan culture. So I thought that was a part of it, honestly. I was actually feeling really great at getting booed because I felt like the Spurs, one of my favourite clubs, going to have a match against Arsenal at the Emirates. So yeah, that experience itself was actually really funny and great and I actually enjoyed it a lot. And I was also very excited to have the victory in the enemy turf.
Kim "cvMax" Dae-ho won his first ever major title with your team in this tournament, how much did he help your team to achieve this result?
ShowMaker: The biggest contribution of cvMax is actually that he made a great team as a whole. He helped our group to grow together and he also brought us a lot of motivation that worked really well throughout the competition. So I think in that sense, he did a great job for our team. I'm really grateful and it’s an honor to be in the same team as him.
Since I know you're a big fan of football, I wanted to ask you which football player do you feel like you have a similar career with?
ShowMaker: I would say Ronaldinho because he was really great and had a strong impact during one or two years. But overall I don't think he was the steadiest player. So I think that is a career similar to mine because I had the peak of my career in 2020 and 2021, but I went downhill and there were a lot of ups and downs in those years. So even though I left a really big impact in that period, I wasn't really steady at all. So I think in that sense, I'm really much alike with Ronaldinho.”
