The
CBLoL 2027 Promotion was scheduled to kick off on
Monday, September 28th, as the
Golden Lions and
would battle it out in the tournament’s first round: the Play-In Match. As the runners-up from the
Liga Regional Sur and the
Circuito Desafiante, respectively, both teams were seeded in an all-or-nothing best-of-five to qualify for the tournament’s main bracket.
Game 1 was KaBuM! favored, but the Peruvians had a strong early game in Game 2. However, similarly to the first game, the Brazilians still closed it in around 24 minutes. The Lions had a competitive start to Game 3, reflected in the small but significant gold lead near the fifteen-minute mark. Unfortunately, the game was paused, and it never resumed.
The pause remained until the official broadcast announced that one of the Golden Lions’ players had disconnected. The pause was prolonged in hopes the affected player would reconnect, but it never happened. The CBLoL shared a press release through its official social media channels.
What was the issue?
The official release explained that the pause timer elapsed, and officials informed the Golden Lions they could play 4v5 or forfeit. The Peruvians chose the latter, ending the series 0-3 and eliminating them. Earlier this month,
Riot Games’ official press release revealed that this Tournament would be played remotely from São Paulo.
Riot also said it would accommodate both LRS teams’ needs, flights, hotels, and a practice ground in São Paulo. However, CBLoL shared an update on its social media channels that, due to a personal issue, one player from Golden Lions’ roster couldn’t travel with the team to Brazil.
At the moment, it is unclear which player couldn’t fly to São Paulo, and CBLoL allowed him to play remotely. According to the Latin American broadcast, the player with connectivity issues tried to move to another location and reconnect to continue playing in the tournament. As the reconnection proved unlikely, the team forfeited. Riot Brazil reiterates that there were no connection issues in São Paulo at the facilities they provided.
