From September 19 to October 4, the
2026 Asian Games will take place around the city of Nagoya, Japan. For this 20th edition, esports is once again part of the program, as it has been for the past two editions, in 2018 and 2022 (postponed to 2023 due to COVID-19). Among the more than 450 medal events taking place over the two-week period, eleven are part of the esports program, covering 13 different games, including some of the most well-known titles in the ecosystem, such as
League of Legends, PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, and
Mobile Legends.
According to figures compiled by
Sheep Esports in a previous article, nearly 31 different nations will travel to Japan for these eleven different competitions, with around 24 different entries in
eFootball and 16 in
Gran Turismo 7, for example, while
League of Legends has one of the smallest fields with only eight different teams. For fighting games, which are particularly popular in Japan, the organizers have introduced a specific team-based format for
Street Fighter, Tekken 8, and The King of Fighters XV, with three players per country and a single result at the end.

Like all major multi-sport events, like the
Olympic Games, the Asian Games will feature a medal table throughout the 15-day competition, with the nations winning the most medals at the top. At
Sheep Esports, we will therefore track the medals won across the eleven esports events, starting with the first medals awarded on September 23 in
eFootball and
GT7 and concluding with
League of Legends on September 2.
In 2023, during the
Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, seven games were played, with China finishing first in the final medal table after winning four gold medals and one bronze, ahead of South Korea with two golds, one silver, and one bronze. Thailand completed the podium. In
2018, China had already finished first in the same ranking.

Pokémon Unite
Pokémon UNITE was featured as an official medal sport at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan, from September 25 to 27. Ten nations competed in the team-based MOBA at the Aichi Sky Expo.

Fighting Games
The Competitive Martial Arts event was featured at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 23 to 26. Thirteen teams competed across Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and The King of Fighters XV, with 39 players taking part.
