Which LEC team has won the most titles?

From 2013 to 2018, the major League of Legends competition in Europe was called the EU LCS. Since then, the LEC has become the new European championship, and more recently, in 2023, this same competition was expanded to include other regions and became the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) championship. So, after all these years of competition on the Old Continent, which organization has won the most titles?

The first thing to know is that from 2013 to 2022, a competitive year in the European league consisted of two splits: spring and summer. Since 2023, there have been three splits, with the addition of the winter one, followed by a new competition that crowns the champion of the whole year: the Season Finals. In 2023 and 2024, the LEC crowned no fewer than four "champions": the champion of each split and the Season Finals champion.

The topic was widely debated, as many felt that the winners of each of the three splits in the new format could not claim the status of champion, a title reserved for the sole winner of the Season Finals. Riot Games have heard the message and have aligned themselves: from 2025 onwards, the publisher plans to remove the awarding of a title to the champion of each split, and give just one title per year, to the champion of the final annual EMEA event.

Over the five years and ten splits disputed under the EU LCS formula, Fnatic was crowned seven times. The Black and Orange won both titles in 2013, the spring in 2014, both titles in 2015, then none between 2016 and 2017 before returning to glory in 2018 with, once again, two victories. That was also the year Martin 'Rekkles' Larsson and Co. reached the Worlds final. But since then, the void. Fnatic have not won a single trophy either internationally or in their own region since 2018. The organization, therefore, remains stuck at seven titles since the creation of the European league and the professionalization of the competitive circuit.

Worse, the British organization seems to be caught up in a veritable curse. Despite the drought, Fnatic have not disappeared from the radar at all: the team still plays leading roles in the LEC and is almost always present in the final four of the competition. However, over the last six years, Fnatic have been unable to repeat the feat: the team has reached the final of the competition eight times since their last title... losing all eight of them. Seven of those eight defeats have come at the hands of their biggest rival, G2 Esports.

In fact, the Samurais did not wait for the creation of the LEC to collect trophies. When they arrived in the European championship in 2016, they struck a blow right from the start by winning all four titles in their first two years. With 2018 once again dominated by Fnatic, the public thought they would see a tandem settle at the top of the brand new LEC, introduced in 2019. However, that was not to be, as a transfer totally changed the situation and unbalanced the region for the following years.

G2 just snatched from Fnatic one of its most emblematic players, star midlaner Rasmus "Caps" Winther. Quite simply, since the Dane's arrival, the organization has won all but four of the regional titles: the two in 2021, the one in Summer 2022, and the one in Spring 2023.

What's more, if you take away Fnatic's Worlds from LoL's first competitive season - which then had neither the same value nor the same prestige as today - the Samurais have what no other European organization holds in its trophy haul: an international title. In fact, G2 Esports won the mid-season Invitational (MSI) in 2019. That year, they also reached the Worlds final, the second in a row for Caps.

Moreover, they achieved the LEC Grand Slam in 2024, winning the three shields and the Season Finals. Since their arrival in the European championship, with a few exceptions, G2 have consistently established their dominance on the Old Continent. They have won 17 of the 23 titles they have contested in their region, making them the most successful team in European history, with more than twice as many titles as their runner-up.

The unchallenged domination of Fnatic and, above all, G2, left virtually no room for other teams. Even so, a handful of them managed to get their names on the winners' lists. The first to challenge Fnatic's hegemony was Alliance, in the summer of 2014. Seven years later, Europe finally saw a new champion: MAD Lions, now MAD Lions KOI, who briefly occupied the throne throughout 2021, winning the season's two titles.

The Madrilenians are also the last to win a trophy from the Samurais in the spring 2023 segment. MAD Lions are therefore the third most successful team in the LEC, with three trophies. Rogue, finally, is the fifth and last team to have dominated Europe. The team had an (almost) perfect year in 2022: severely beaten in the spring final by... G2, of course (0-3), they got their revenge in style by inflicting the same fate to the Samurais to conclude the Summer Split.
