Riot Games could pay tribute to Lauri "Cyanide" Happonen, iconic jungler and winner of the inaugural
League of Legends World Championship, whose death on July 31 was made public on Monday. To commemorate the legendary Fnatic player, Riot could introduce a new, free player title: "Young Legend Cyanide," according to the @LeagueOfLeaks X account.
Additionally, players could reportedly earn the original Fnatic Jarvan IV skin, associated with his World Championship win, by playing three games as Jarvan IV.
Honoring a timeless legend
Cyanide shaped the esports ecosystem into what it is now, inspiring a generation of players who grew up watching his legendary matches with Fnatic. For this reason,
many players and organizations expressed their sadness on social media when his death was announced.
Even after the official broadcast
included a speech from Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere before the start of the October 27 Worlds 2026 match day, Riot could reportedly extend the tribute to the game itself by offering Cyanide-related content for free.
This will not be the first time Riot has done so: Cyanide's former teammate and fellow World Champion, Maciej "
Shushei" Ratuszniak,
received a similar tribute when his death was announced, as his Fnatic Gragas skin was given away.Bringing Cyanide back to the Rift
The choice of Jarvan IV is not random. For many fans who watched the early days of competitive League of Legends, the Fnatic Jarvan IV skin symbolizes the first-ever World Championship and the jungler who helped win it. Getting it back years later means seeing a piece of that history walk on the Rift again.
If the reported tribute goes ahead, Cyanide's legacy could live on not only in old VODs and memories, but also inside the game itself. Even players who never saw him compete could learn his name, and every time someone equipped the title or skin, they could remember the young legend who helped shape the early days of competitive League of Legends.
How to unlock the Cyanide tribute content
Once the tribute goes live, unlocking both rewards will be simple according to @LeagueOfLeaks. To unlock the “Young Legend Cyanide” title and the Fnatic Jarvan IV skin, players would have to complete three games as Jarvan IV.
After the third game, the skin would be added to the player’s collection, ready to be used. It would be a small gesture, but one that lets every player carry a piece of Cyanide’s legacy onto the Rift.
