Fnatic will now face G2 on June 20 for a spot in the lower bracket final
There was plenty of tension and redemption at the VCT Masters Toronto 2025 on a day that featured two high-stakes VALORANT clashes in the lower bracket semifinals. G2 Esports stood their ground against Gen.G, and Fnatic staged a spectacular comeback to eliminate Sentinels.
It all started on Lotus, but it never seemed like Gen.G was truly there. Known for their excellent trades and Kim “Texture” Na-ra's precise entries, Gen.G crumbled under the pressure. G2 Esports delivered a defensive masterclass, with Alexander “Jawgemo” Mor dominating every retake. G2 had Gen.G completely figured out, whether it was raw aim or strategic reads. They closed the first half 10–2.
Gen.G fought back in the second half, securing their bonus round and pressuring G2’s economy. But it wasn’t enough. Despite the late scare, G2 won their map pick (Lotus) 13–7. On Haven, Gen.G looked like a new team. Texture regained confidence with the Operator, and the match remained close until the end. Round by round, Gen.G clawed back to even the series and force a decisive map.
And what a decider it was! On Icebox, Gen.G looked revitalized and dominant. But G2 weren’t done. In a nail-biting finish, they held their ground, with the Initiator Nathan "Leaf" Orf performing phenomenally and dropping a 20/11/6 to seal the map 13–11, knocking Gen.G out of the tournament. "We just don’t want to go home” JAlexander “Jawgemo” Mor told Yinsu after the match, when she asked how he manages to stay so consistent.
Alfager’s Masterclass
In the second match of the day, Sentinels took on against Fnatic. They dominated the first half on Sunset and secured the full control of the map. But Fnatic didn’t break. They began a comeback, climbing all the way back to 11–9 with the crowd behind them. However, Marshall "Narrate" Massey had other plans. With a flurry of kills, he stopped Fnatic's momentum and secured the first map for Sentinels, 13–9.
On their pick, Ascent, it was Fnatic’s turn to shine. Led by Jake “Boaster” Howlett, they delivered a flawless performance despite fierce resistance from Mohammed Amine “JohnQT” Ouarid and his teammates. The map ended 13–7 in favor of Fnatic, pushing the series to a third map.
Everything would be decided on Icebox, and it delivered fireworks. Sentinels started strong, but Fnatic answered every blow. The arena erupted with every clutch and kill; the tension boiled over between rounds. Ultimately, Fnatic kept their composure and won the series 13–9, eliminating SEN. Their Sentinel, Emir Ali "Alfajer" Beder, had an insane performance with a KDA of 27/12/2 on Killjoy. It was a masterclass from the Turkish player.
"I’m built different," Alfajer said in his post-game interview with Yinsu, when she asked how he continues to carry his team from 2022 to 2025. On June 20, Fnatic will face G2 Esports in the lower bracket final, in what is sure to be a huge clash between Europe and North America.
