f0rsakeN was named MVP of the tournament
On Sunday 22 June 2025, Paper Rex exorcised years of disappointment by finally defeating Fnatic 3–1 in the VALORANT Masters Toronto 2025 grand final. The Singapore-based squad took an early lead by winning Sunset 13–11. After Fnatic equalized on Icebox, Paper Rex sealed their victory with 13–10 and 14–12 wins on Pearl and Lotus. This thrilling victory marks Paper Rex’s first international trophy, finally putting an end to the team's long run of close calls on the world stage.
Before Toronto, Paper Rex had reached two previous international finals, but failed to win. They were runners-up to FunPlus Phoenix at the 2022 Masters Copenhagen and lost 3–1 to Evil Geniuses in the 2023 Champions final.
Masterclass Performance
The final was a tale of momentum swings. On Sunset, Paper Rex quickly took a significant lead and refused to allow Fnatic to force overtime. An aggressive Sage wall defence sealed the map 13–11 for Paper Rex. Fnatic responded on Icebox, with star rifler Kajetan "kaajak" Haremski inspiring a late comeback that forced overtime, ultimately winning 17–15.
However, the Pacific third seed regained control of Pearl, outplaying the Europeans to win it 13–10. In the deciding Lotus map, both teams traded early rounds, but Paper Rex pulled ahead late to win 14–12 and lift the trophy. Jason “f0rsakeN” Susant was named the tournament MVP for his all-around performance, achieving 81 kills and 75 deaths with an Average Combat Score of 223 over the series.
With their first Masters' crown in hand, Paper Rex can now look ahead to the season’s final challenges. Paper Rex will carry this momentum into the upcoming VCT Stage 2 events and ultimately the season-ending Champions.
