Treatz and Raqo have already signaled their intention to seek new opportunities
On Wednesday, Erik "Treatz" Wessén and Max "Raqo" Temminck became the first to publicly indicate the sweeping changes likely to unfold at KOI Fénix. The support revealed late in the morning that he remains under contract but has been granted permission by the organization to explore external options. Meanwhile, the Head Coach openly announced that he is in search of a new project. According to Sheep Esports sources, the organization has, in fact, allowed all members of its roster to seek out opportunities elsewhere and has simultaneously begun exploring alternatives for every position. Assistant coach Ronan James "jinjo" Swingler has also been benched, still according to our information.
This major restructuring is driven by two main factors. First, the team’s competitive results have fallen short of expectations. Despite the support role change in the Spring — with Kamil "Kamilius" Košťál being replaced by Treatz — KOI Fénix failed to improve in the standings. In fact, their performance deteriorated: after finishing 5th in the Winter Split, the team slipped to 7th in the Spring, ultimately missing out on the playoffs.
Still in Search of a Title
The second reason is structural, tied to a broader shift in the academy’s strategy following the takeover by Ibai Llanos and Luis “Resett” Filgueira in early May. That decision came in the wake of a turbulent evening for the club, during which alleged internal issues — particularly concerning the management of the LEC team — were publicly revealed. KOI now appears poised to start afresh, aiming to rebuild almost from scratch, despite a roster that, on paper, features notable ERL talent such as Edgaras "Eckas" Strazdauskas, Bartłomiej "Fresskowy" Przewoźnik, and William "UNF0RGIVEN" Nieminen.
Since joining the Spanish league, KOI Fénix has yet to discover the formula necessary to contend for a title. The team's best result to date remains a third-place finish in the Summer Split of 2023. Since its entry into the Superliga in 2022, KOI has only managed to qualify for the EMEA Masters once — during the expanded Summer 2024 edition — following a fifth-place league finish that, due to the tournament’s widened format, was sufficient to secure entry.
