Akroma have until early September to find a new entity that will assume the spot
According to sources close to Sheep Esports, the French esports organization Akroma is planning to exit VALORANT Esports starting in 2025. The decision for Akroma to cease its operations in Riot Games' FPS appears to be final, but the organization is actively seeking a new brand or team to take over its spot in the VALORANT Challengers France.
The team has until early September to find a new entity that will assume the spot. If they are unsuccessful, the league organizer, Freaks 4U Gaming, in conjunction with Riot Games, will open the spot to a public bidding process where various teams can submit their proposals to secure the position for the best possible brand. According to sources, selling the spot is not permitted in the French VCL, unlike in other leagues such as the LEC where similar transactions have occurred in the past.
Sources close to the organization indicate that one of the reasons behind this decision is a desire to focus on their League of Legends division, which currently competes in the second level of the French league (Div2). Since their arrival on this scene, in 2023, Akroma never got above 6th place. They will aim for better results by investing further on LoL from now on. However, the org does not plan on leaving Teamfight Tactics, the only other game they are competing in.
The French team finished fourth in the first split of this year’s VCL and placed sixth in the most recent split, leaving them without a chance to qualify for the yearly promotion tournament: Ascension. As a reminder, Akroma joined VCL France for the second Split of 2023. The French org gave a second wind to the Autobahn roster, which previously played under beGenius ESC banner, during the first split. The Occitan org had to leave the league at the time, following a number of economic problems, including accusations of unpaid bills.
