After a controversial end to Stage 2, MKF has decided to retain a key player.
Michail "globeX" Kostylew has reached an agreement with KOI Fénix to continue competing with the team for Stage 3 of VCL Spain: Rising, per Sheep Esports sources. The 19-year-old Russian-Polish achieved the first major result of his career with the team in Challengers EMEA Stage 2, placing 3rd after a controversial loss to Enterprise Esports. In the series that denied them a finals berth, a player's disconnection meant an entire map had to be replayed.
After winning its first VCL Spain: Rising title in Stage 2, KF set its sights on the continent-wide EMEA tournament with one goal in mind: to prove the team's prowess against the best teams in VALORANT EMEA Tier 2. The ending, then, left a sour taste in the player's mouths — the team will be looking to fight their way back to that stage soon.
New faces in Stage 3?
Challengers EMEA Stage 2 was globeX's debut with KOI Fénix, following the organization's decision to promote Ondřej "MONSTEERR" Petrů to its VCT EMEA roster. Evidently, even though he has yet to compete against the VCL Spain: Rising talent KF felled with MONSTEERR on the lineup, globeX's performance was impressive enough to justify retaining him.
However, KF isn't necessarily done making changes this offsason. Several VCT teams have shown interest in acquiring players on KOI Fénix, so the organization has kept its options open. It's increasingly likely that the team will feature new faces in Stage 3, and it's possible that players will have to change their roles within the team to form a more holistic roster.
