Barça eSports wins their first ever Superliga title
Barça eSports have broken their curse, with a 3-1 win against GIANTX Pride. After having lost two Superliga finals, and an Iberian Cup final, the organization was finally able to put the cherry on top and lift the Spanish trophy. Their victory also marks the end of an era of domination over the Superliga by Los Heretics, who had won the last three titles. Barça eSports will now be the #1 seed representing the LVP at the at the EMEA Masters Spring.
This is the first Superliga title for each of the team's players, except Alexandru "whiteinn" Kolozsvari, who had already lifted the trophy with Los Heretics — the previous reigning champions.
Patience is key
Barça eSports have never given up. Being number two has never been enough for the organization, who have patiently waited for their moment to find their way to victory. Finishing with a 5-4 score on the regular season standings, Barça had a slow and steady start to the split, advancing to the Swiss stage. This next step was not the cleanest either, as the organization lost a series against UCAM Esports. Nevertheless, the organization never lost track of what their goal was: to reach playoffs in the highest form possible.
Playoffs started great, with a 3-1 win over LUA Gaming. Their second playoffs match ended up being one of the hardest obstacles to overcome throughout the split: Los Heretics. Barça eSports began by winning the first two games, but Los Heretics rapidly closed the game and seemed capable of pulling off a reverse sweep. The "Blaugranas" kept their cool though, and secured the win in a clean Game 5. This meant that the organization was set to play their fourth consecutive domestic final.
A fistfight end to the split
The Spanish players from Barça, Sergio Vicente "Legolas" Gispert and Francisco "Thayger" Mazo Sánchez, had long awaited their victory, and they were not going to let it slip through their fingers. Game 1, however, did not exactly start as they wanted. The botlane started on the wrong foot, and Paweł "Czekolad" Szczepanik got solokilled twice by Feisty's Ahri, but the team kept their composure and struck back to get a first kill for their jungler on Jax. Thanks to a clutch TP from Matti "WhiteKnight" Sormunen, Barça were able to close the gap with GIANTX Pride. The game later turned into a constant brawl around objectives, where Barça ended up coming on top at minute 36, when the score showed no less than 47 kills in total.
After a very one-sided Game 2 for GIANTX Pride, Barça were able to replicate their success from Game 1 in a very action-packed game, with on-point fighting to secure the win and get ahead on the score. They decided to finish the series in style, playing another teamfight-oriented game, where both teams fought each other to death until one of them came up on top.
The "Blaugranas" now must put their hearts and souls into their next goal, EMEA Masters, which kicks off this Tuesday. Barça Esports, GIANTX Pride, and Los Heretics will be the three Spanish representatives who will look to show up for their region and bring the trophy home. Stay tuned as the group draw is expected early next week, once all qualified teams are confirmed.
