Heretics and Vitality face off tomorrow at 8 PM for the final Playoffs spot
The final week of the LEC regular season will last one day longer. GIANTX’s 2-0 victory over Team Heretics puts them in fifth place for the regular season, without needing to go through any tiebreakers. But with this loss, Heretics must face Team Vitality in a BO1 this Tuesday at 8 PM CET. The winner will advance to the lower bracket of the Playoffs, while the loser will be on break until the Summer Split.
Vitality and Heretics, down to the wire
GIANTX pulls off the Split's biggest upset. Just three weeks ago, they were in tenth place, and two weeks ago they were sitting in ninth—but GIANTX has pulled off a sensation, activating their late-split scaling at exactly the right moment. While they haven’t yet fully tapped into the potential expected from a team reshaped by the arrival of Ismaïl "ISMA" Boualem in the jungle at the start of the spring split, they’ve avoided turning this Spring into a failure—and in doing so, crushed Heretics’ playoffs hopes.
Heretics, who hadn’t dropped a single series in the past two weeks, crumbled under pressure in this final match. Swept 2-0 in under 28 minutes each game, the Spanish squad looked disoriented, lacking the control usually provided by Théo "Sheo" Borile. With no clear leadership or winning lanes, the final result felt inevitable and deserved. Now, they’ll face Vitality—also in crisis—in a tiebreaker. The Bees return to Berlin today after a tough weekend on the road at the Karmine Corp arena.
KOI keep winning
The day’s second series held little at stake. Movistar KOI took a clean 2-0 win over Rogue, who were playing their last game of the split. With no seeding implications for KOI, they still managed to finish third in the regular season, just ahead of G2 Esports. However, the win was far from convincing, with Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun once again showing signs of inconsistency. Luckily for them, the opposition wasn’t threatening.
Only one game remains before the final playoffs bracket is locked in. Karmine Corp will choose its opponent between G2 and MKOI, while Fnatic will face the other. GIANTX and the winner of tomorrow’s tiebreaker will be placed in the lower bracket. We’ll know the full Playoffs picture after the Vitality vs Heretics match, which kicks off at 8 PM this Tuesday while the Playoffs begin in two weeks.
