This is G2's eighth consecutive LEC final and their seventh qualification for MSI
G2 Esports took down Movistar KOI 3-1, qualifying for the LEC Spring Split Grand Final. Their victory also secured them a spot at MSI 2025, which will take place in Canada from late June to mid-July. MKOI dropped to the lower bracket final and now awaits its challenger — one of GIANTX, Team Heretics, Karmine Corp, or Fnatic — who will emerge after next weekend’s matches.
Seeded 4th coming into playoffs after a disappointing and uncharacteristic regular season, G2 has now reached its eighth consecutive LEC final. They also became the first team in the world to qualify for MSI 2025, marking their seventh appearance at the tournament (having only missed the 2015, 2018, and 2021 editions). This puts them tied with T1 as the team with the most MSI appearances, although T1’s qualification is not yet secured in the LCK.
Is G2 already reclaiming its former glory?
The Samurais made quick work of KOI. Despite this, they did drop one game, thanks to a clutch performance by Joseph "Jojopyun" Joon Pyun on Azir in a miracle Game 3 teamfight. The overall takeaway from the series was a strong sense of regained control from G2. While there were still some scattered mistakes, every game felt confidently managed from start to finish. A special mention goes to Rasmus "Caps" Winther, who had a standout performance, once again showcasing his creativity and decision-making prowess. He rightfully earned MVP of the day.
In the post-game interview, Rudy "SkewMond" Semaan expressed his excitement at qualifying for his first international event. Speaking to OTP, he shared his relief and praised his teammates for staying resilient despite criticism since the rough Winter Split final. With the Spring final still ahead, he’s already looking toward MSI, eager to face the world’s top junglers from the LCK, such as Han "Peanut" Wang-ho, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu, and Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun.
G2 is now set to enjoy a two-week break before the LEC final. Next weekend’s lower bracket matches will eliminate three teams. Fnatic faces GIANTX on Saturday, while Karmine Corp meets Team Heretics on Sunday. The winners of those two series will clash in a high-stakes series on Monday. Only one will earn the right to face MKOI in the lower bracket final for a chance to join G2 at MSI.
