Chovy secured a pentakill on Azir in Game 1
The eighth week of the LCK kicked off with a highly anticipated clash between the league leaders Gen.G and their closest rivals, Hanwha Life Esports. Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon and his teammates came out on top in a high-level best-of-three series. Right after, DRX took the stage against DN Freecs and secured a win after a chaotic and back-and-forth Game 2.
Chovy and Moon "Andil" Gwan-bin were named MVPs of their respective series. Gen.G now sit at the top of the standings with a flawless 15-0 record, while HLE suffer their third loss of the split, dropping to 12-3. At the bottom of the table, DN Freecs (1-14) are now mathematically out of playoff contention, while DRX (4-11) keep their hopes alive with this win.
The perfect run
Invincible, unshakable, and dominant — Gen.G continue to prove they're the ultimate team. Today, they took down Hanwha Life Esports, who, like the rest of the league, couldn’t find a way to break them. Game 1 featured a Pentakill from Chovy on Azir during a Baron fight, securing a massive gold lead and an easy win. Kim "Kiin" Gi-in also had a standout performance on Nidalee, finishing 0/0/14.
Hanwha struck back in Game 2, with Park "Viper" Do-hyeon’s Ezreal leading the charge to finally end Gen.G’s 21-game winning streak. But in Game 3, Chovy pulled out midlane Renekton — a champion unseen in that role in the LCK for over two years — and dominated once again. Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo was completely shut down in lane, and Kiin’s Aurora neutralized Choi "Zeus" Woo-je’s Gnar, sealing the series for Gen.G.
Hope for DRX
DRX’s first game was defined by Lee "Rich" Jae-won’s dominant performance on Jayce, finishing 8/1/5 with nearly 30,000 damage. A crucial teamfight around Baron Nashor gave them the gold lead they needed to close out the game. The gold graph of game two alone shows how unpredictable it was — Freecs showed flashes of strength and a clear desire to equalize the series, but DRX kept finding ways back into the game.
A pivotal moment came with a bot-side river fight where Son "Ucal" Woo-hyeon picked up a quadrakill just as the Elder Drake was about to be started, sealing the win for DRX. With this victory, they now sit three wins behind KT Rolster, who currently occupy sixth place — the last spot for LCK Playoffs.
Tomorrow, to kick off the LCK day, OKSavingsBank BRION will look to break their losing streak against a Dplus KIA side that’s been showing better form recently. Later, T1 will aim for their tenth win of the split as they take on BNK FEARX, who have been struggling in their recent matches.
