Ruler and Deokdam claim their first MVP of the split
It’s been known for a while, but it’s now official: Gen.G are guaranteed first place in the regular season, and it’s well deserved. Today, they took another step toward a perfect split by defeating DRX. In the second best-of series of the day, KT Rolster secured a hard-fought win, marking their fifth consecutive victory and bringing them level with Nongshim RedForce in the standings.
In the rankings, Gen.G sit firmly at the top of the LCK, while DRX can no longer reach the playoffs after this loss. KT and NS both stand at 8-7, each with one match left to play on Sunday—KT against BNK FEARX and NS against OKSavingsbank BRION. The MVP honors for today went to Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Seo “deokdam” Dae-gil.
Just two steps left
Gen.G are unstoppable, just two best-of-three series away from achieving the perfect split — a feat only accomplished by T1 in 2022. Back then, T1 lost 7 Nexuses, whereas Gen.G have only lost 4 so far, which would make their record even better. The two remaining BO3s will be against tough opponents: first KT, known for breaking win streaks as they did in both splits of 2024. Plus, they’re clearly in good form right now. This match, scheduled for Thursday, May 29, will be crucial in the race for the perfect split. The second BO3 will be against BRO on Saturday, May 31 — a potentially tricky game for Gen.G, as they have already trapped once T1.
Talking about today’s game, even when they’re behind, Gen.G manage to come out on top. In game 2, they were down by 2,500 gold, but it was as if that deficit didn’t exist for them. Today was definitely Ruler’s day — the first MVP awarded to the AD Carry this split. He dominated with Lucian in game 1, finishing 8/1/10, and dealt over 57k damage on Tristana in game 2. They’re on a mission for the perfect split, and no one will be able to stop them.
5/5 since PerfecT’s return
Since Lee "PerfecT" Seung-min returned to the main roster against Dplus KIA, KT have been unbeatable, with five consecutive wins for the team that will likely make the playoffs. For this BO, Nongshim made a roster change: Ha "vital" In-seong was promoted from the academy, while Jung "Jiwoo" Ji-woo moved back to the LCK Challengers. The series didn’t go as they planned, as Deokdam performed exceptionally well today — a first game on Jhin ending 8/0/9, followed by a game 3 on Jinx where he was involved in 10 of the 13 kills. With this victory, KT are very likely locked into the playoffs and will also take on the mission of stopping once again Gen.G from achieving a perfect split.
Tomorrow at 8 AM CET, Hanwha Life Esports will face Dplus KIA, who desperately need a win to secure their playoff spot, while T1 will play a best-of series that looks quite favorable against the DN Freecs, who are still at the bottom of the LCK Round 1-2 standings.
