League of Legends Classic roadmap details future content updates

As League of Legends Classic becomes available to everyone starting this Wednesday, July 29, Riot Games has also unveiled the roadmap that will accompany fans nostalgic for Season 3 of the MOBA. The game mode has launched with the original Summoner's Rift, nearly 60 champions with their original kits, the old rune system, and the return of the original rune unlock progression, tied to player levels and the points they earn.

However, this first wave will not be the last. As the North American developer confirmed, at least five additional content waves are already planned, beginning on August 12 with three more champions. While Riot Games did not officially reveal their identities alongside the roadmap announcement, the company appears to have quietly added their names to the PBE, League of Legends' public test environment where players can try upcoming content, or in this case, returning content, ahead of release.

Alongside the 60 champions already available in LoL Classic, Akali, Kennen, and Shen are expected to join the roster, according to SkinSpotlight on X. According to the official post, these new champions should arrive with Patch 26.16. As with the mode's launch patch, future updates will continue to roll out every two weeks, in line with the game's regular patch schedule.

Starting with Patch 26.17, expected to go live on August 26, "The Council Voting" system and a new wave of rune options are set to arrive. Council Voting is a new community-driven system that allows League of Legends Classic players to vote on future content updates rather than having Riot Games make every decision internally. Players will be able to choose between upcoming additions such as champions, skins, and gameplay features, with the most popular options making their way into future patches. This system will therefore help shape the three additional updates already planned, although Riot has already outlined several key milestones in its roadmap.

Then, with Patch 26.18 on September 9, more champions are expected to join the game, likely influenced in part by the community's choices. Another round of voting is scheduled for Patch 26.19, which is set to launch on live servers on September 23. Finally, the last update featured in this roadmap, Patch 26.20 on October 7, is expected to introduce Act II of the Classic Pass, once again likely shaped in part by feedback from the nostalgic community.

It is also worth noting that, according to a recent report covered by Sheep Esports, LoL Classic could become a permanent game mode. If that proves to be the case, this roadmap would likely represent only the end of its first planned content cycle rather than the final update for the mode.
