Gumayusi shares his thoughts and frustration about the current meta

The current botlane meta continues to divide opinion. While some players welcome the added diversity it has brought or have seen their teams benefit from it, others would much rather return to a more traditional meta. Among them is recent Mid-Season Invitational champion .

During a recent livestream, AD Carry shared his thoughts and frustrations regarding the current state of the botlane. During the MSI, Gumayusi had already appeared on Marc "Caedrel" Lamont's Twitch channel, where he made it clear that he was not a fan of the growing number of mages being played in the role. He has now reiterated that opinion while explaining in greater detail what he dislikes about the current meta.

Gumayusi first explained that he has had to practice several unconventional picks, including several mages, with teammate .

However, he admitted that being required to play those champions as an ADC feels almost unnatural to him. "Speaking as a League player, I've always felt that choosing a role is almost like choosing a class in another game. Every role has something people want from it. If you play top, there are things you expect from top, and if you choose ADC, there's a reason you chose ADC."

He went on to explain that he originally chose to play ADC because he enjoyed the gameplay of marksmen, but that the role has evolved to the point where those champions are no longer its defining feature, forcing him to adapt. "Do you think I'd want to play Swain? I don't. I picked ADC because I wanted to play marksmen, but instead the mages are causing me trouble."

Gumayusi's most-played champion this season is Ziggs, with 14 games and a 78.6% win rate. More recently, he has also been seen playing Seraphine at the Esports World Cup and Xerath during the KeSPA Cup. "I think picks like Ziggs can exist as niche counterpicks. Vayne is similar to some extent. But they shouldn't become the meta. Not every champion should turn into an off-meta botlaner."
