The group stage of the
Esports World Cup 2026 has concluded on
VALORANT, leaving only eight teams in the running for the title. After four days of group play in the GSL format, the competition will shift to a single-elimination playoff bracket in Paris from July 9 to July 12. The remaining contenders are:
- 100 Thieves
- BBL Esports
- Team Vitality
- NRG
- Gentle Mates
- Nongshim RedForce
- Team Heretics
- MIBR
This playoff spot not only reflects a strong group stage performance but also gives the teams still competing at EWC 2026 the opportunity to earn valuable points toward the Club Championship, alongside a share of the $2 million prize pool allocated to
VALORANT alone. It is a major opportunity,
particularly for Team Vitality, the second most represented organization at the event, which is targeting the Club Championship title this year and now stands as the only remaining favorite in the tournament following All Gamers' early elimination.
As the last remaining VCT Pacific representative, Nongshim will face the Bees on Friday, July 10, in the quarterfinals before 100Thieves take on MIBR.LOS later that day. Those matches will make up the second day of the playoffs, while defending champions Team Heretics will open the stage on Thursday, July 9, against BBL Esports in an all-EMEA showdown. Gentle Mates, meanwhile, will face reigning world champions NRG later that same day for
a place in the semifinals.
A tournament full of upsets
For the other half of the field, the tournament has already come to an end. The group stage produced no shortage of surprises, with several tournament favorites falling well short of expectations. For example, Paper Rex was eliminated by Karmine Corp, one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. While some teams confirmed their status as title contenders, others exceeded pre-tournament predictions by eliminating more established organizations.

- G2 Esports
- Karmine Corp
- All Gamers
- Edward Gaming
With only eight teams remaining, the focus shifts to whether Team Heretics can successfully defend their title from last year or if a new champion will be crowned in Paris. Team Vitality, Gentle Mates, and BBL Esports will carry the hopes of the EMEA on home soil. Meanwhile, 100 Thieves, Nongshim RedForce, NRG, and MIBR will have the opportunity to make their mark on EWC history when the playoffs begin on July 9.
