The timing is striking. The change comes just a week before T1’s home-ground event at the KSPO Dome in Seoul Olympic Park, scheduled for August 14–16. With no official explanation beyond the club’s line that it is “as part of the coaching staff’s preparation.”

Painter is not entirely unknown to high-level competition. He already featured during the 2026 KeSPA Cup, where T1’s academy side lost to the Nongshim RedForce main roster, but defeated KRX and DN SOOPers, as well as Gen.G’s academy team. Still, today marks his first appearance alongside T1’s starting lineup in the LCK, a significant step up from the Challengers scene where he has been developing.

His promotion suggests T1 are testing options in the jungle role at a pivotal moment. Oner, a long-standing pillar of the team, has been a consistent presence in the roster that currently sits near the top of the standings. Benching him for a regular-season match, especially against a strong opponent like HLE, signals that the coaching staff may be probing for a new dynamic or preparing contingency plans ahead of the playoffs and their marquee home event.

This last-minute switch before a regular-season series may surprise some fans, but it fits a pattern for T1. "No matter who you call up or what kind of change you make, when you take that match readiness into consideration, in my view, having the jungle players compete with each other was the best direction for helping the team improve overall, so that's why we made that decision."
