Cloud9 started off the series with a bang as
’s Naafiri ran over the rift alongside
s K’sante and
’s Karma. Vulcan had a standout moment by scoring a fantastic 1v2 kill on LYON’s bot lane. Game 2 looked quite promising for Cloud9 as
was on a strong spot as Yunara alongside Thanatos’ Gnar. However, a crucial pick on Thanatos in the mid lane, and a massive teamfight in the bot lane turned the tides for LYON. Some more excellent teamfighting from
’s Kha’Zix and
’s Sylas allowed LYON to equalise the series.
Game 3 was an Inspired masterclass on Qiyana as he had a 4.4k gold lead over Blaber’s Poppy when the game concluded. Despite Blaber matching Inspired in the early game, some overforced errors by Cloud9 were promptly punished by LYON.
The final game of the series once again looked good for Cloud9 as Blaber had a great early to mid game on the Vi pick. LYON clawed their way back by catching Tactical’s Aphelios a few times but Cloud9 kept it competitive. The game completely fell apart at the Elder Dragon fight where
’s Taliyah ultimate to focus
’s Garen, alongside Thanatos and Blaber left Tactical and Vulcan isolated. This resulted in a simple fight win for LYON, who proceeded to take the Baron and end the series.
It was a competitive but frustrating performance from Cloud9, who consistently made crucial mistakes at the worst possible time against a team of LYON’s caliber. On the other hand, LYON still look beatable, which is a good sign for a competitive and entertaining grand finals against Team Liquid.
