The Philippines are expected to participate in the upcoming
Esports Nations Cup. The Southeast Asian nation has produced a significant number of players who have competed in
VCT Pacific over the past several years and should be capable of fielding a highly competitive roster, combining experienced veterans with rising talent. According to sources close to
Sheep Esports, the roster is expected to consist of the following players:
- Patrick "PatMen" Mendoza
- Adrian "invy" Reyes
- Xavier "xavi8k" Juan
- Jhian "Zeus" Vega
- Kelly "kellyS" Sedillo
PatMen and Invy as star players
Two players in particular stand out as the cornerstones of the Philippine roster. The first is, of course, PatMen, who competed with Paper Rex last year and now represents Global Esports. During his rookie season with PRX, he captured the Masters Toronto title and has since played a key role in helping Global Esports secure the organization's first-ever qualification for an international event, the ongoing Masters London.
The second star of the lineup is invy, who notably replaced PatMen on Paper Rex this season. A VCT Pacific veteran who spent several years with Team Secret, invy recently reached a major milestone in his career by making his international debut and winning the VCT Pacific title. He will also be reunited on the national team with former Team Secret teammate kellyS, as well as Zeus, who joined the organization more recently.
The roster will be rounded out by xavi8k as the team's In-Game Leader, having already played alongside PatMen since joining Global Esports this season. As
previously reported by Sheep Esports, the squad will be led by Jose “
Rbtx” Jamir, who is expected to serve as Head Coach of the Philippine national team.
A strong chance of avoiding the regional qualifier
As a reminder, 16 out of the 32 participating nations will earn direct invitations to the tournament’s main event. Direct qualification is based on a team’s total points, which are calculated from player performance. Each nation’s ranking is determined by the combined points of its five highest-scoring players. Philippines currently sits at 3,625 points, distributed as follows:
- PatMen: 1400 points
- invy: 1750 points
- xavi8k: 300 points
- kellyS: 125 points
- Zeus: 0 points
With such a substantial points total, the Philippines would sit in 13th position
according to Liquipedia calculations, and therefore has a strong chance of avoiding the regional qualifier altogether. The team's two star players have contributed significantly to this impressive tally. As things stand, the nation is expected to secure direct qualification for the main event, which is scheduled to take place from November 8 to 15 in Riyadh.
