"I think the lower bracket is going to be really interesting"

SK Nebula suffered their first loss in VALORANT Game Changers Championship 2026 at the hands of Shopify Rebellion Gold. The 3rd seeded team from EMEA GC had a poor start on their map pick of Haven, but managed to bounce back on Summit. Unfortunately, the better performance on the second map was not enough, as SRG were able to close out the series 2-0.
After the loss, Sheep Esports had the opportunity to chat with SK Nebula’s Lola “fluxxy” Ainslie, who is making her international debut in São Paulo.
Note: This interview was conducted before the FENNEL Female vs GEN.G GC match
What are your thoughts on the result of the series, and on the outcome on Haven, in particular?
Lola “fluxxy” Ainslie: “Honestly, we just started off really, really slow. We weren’t playing like ourselves. We lacked the confidence going into the map. I think we had a couple of tech issues early on which kind of threw us off but it’s obviously not an excuse. We just didn’t manage to catch our momentum on Haven. On Summit, I think we managed to fully reset. It wasn’t my day personally but my team really managed to step up and hit their shots.
We haven’t seen a lot of Harbor and Chamber on Summit in GCC so far. What’s your read on the meta on this map among GC teams?
fluxxy: I think it’s really stylistic and depends on what you want to do. Chamber-Sage is obviously really good and LOUD showed that at Champions and a lot of teams are adopting it right now. For us, we like to be a lot more aggressive to start with. We kind of stole NOVA Esports’ comp for Stage 3 and we swapped to Neon-Omen to kind of give it a little bit more flexibility. I think Summit is one of those maps where you can really run anything. There are obviously better comps than others but as long as people are on comfort roles, you can really succeed playing whatever you want.
This is the first international LAN for Ngoc-Thuy
“Thuy” Duong, Elizaveta “Liza” Lyubovina, and you. How has the experience been so far, and have there been any nerves?
fluxxy: There’s definitely been some nerves from me and other players, I won’t deny that. We had a little bit of that on Haven today. Overall, it’s been a really positive experience. It’s been really fun and it’s been really crazy as well with a lot of media and interviews that we are not really used to but we have got a bit of a handle on it. I think we are still getting used to playing on stage. That requires a bit of adjustment but we’re getting there.
How has São Paulo been so far? Have you been enjoying the vibe?
fluxxy: Yeah, it’s been great! Sadly, we haven’t had the chance to explore the city as we’ve been very busy with all the media stuff and our games. The hotel has been lovely. Seeing the Riot Arena and driving through the city has been crazy. I’ve been loving it.
Your next opponent will be either Gen.G GC or FENNEL Female. Having already faced some of that APAC/CN playstyle against NOVA Esports GC, what are your expectations for the matchup?
fluxxy: Honestly, I’m really not sure. I try my best to follow the GC of other regions but Pacific is one that I’m kind of lax on. So, I’m not really sure what to expect from these teams but I know they are very good. I know every team has fought their way to be here and deserve it. I’m confident and I think we can really bring it in that match.
The tournament has been a bit up and down for all the regions. What is your overall take on the competitiveness of the event so far?
fluxxy: Obviously I wasn’t here last year so I can’t speak to what the level was back then, but honestly I feel like everybody is here to play and fight. I think upsets are going to be really common this time. We’ve already had the defending champions Team Liquid Brazil, and G2 Gozen, who are heavy hitters in GC history going to the lower bracket very early on. I think the lower bracket is going to be really interesting. There are going to be some fun games.
The 2027 Kickoff open qualifiers start just a few days after GCC ends, with Bind and Corrode being added. It’s quite the disadvantage for GC teams, so what are your thoughts on this situation?
fluxxy: Honestly, I hadn’t heard about that and I wasn’t sure when they were going to start. I think nobody that’s here is considering that. Everybody that is here is focused on the GCC and the qualifiers will just come naturally. I think every team that has fought their way to be in GCC will do fine in the Kickoff qualifiers regardless of how much prep time they have.
Are you excited about the revamped VCT system heading into 2027?
fluxxy: Yeah, for sure! Again, we are really focused on GCC so we haven’t been thinking too much about it. However, next year looks crazy. It looks really exciting for tier-two teams, GC teams, and tier-one teams and it’s going to be really interesting to see. Also the fact that GCC next year will be held in the same arena as Champions 2027 is just amazing. I need to fight my way to be there and be on that stage.”
