Sentinels have been selected as a partner organization for the
VCT Americas 2027-2028 cycle, the team announced on Sunday. Given the North American team’s legacy since the inception of
VALORANT esports, this decision seemed not surprising. As a result, Sentinels have extended their stay in the VCT circuit for another two seasons. According to sources,
Riot Games considered multiple factors when selecting partner teams, including fan engagement, recent performance, regional results, and long-term commitment.
Sentinels will be one of the eight partner teams in VCT Americas and will compete under the revamped
VCT 2027 format. The
newly introduced changes are aimed at making the circuit
more open to non-partnered teams. In addition to this, partner teams will receive a direct invite only to Kickoff Americas moving forward.
The North American organization will have to battle against 11 other squads in São Paulo to qualify for
Masters Seoul. Failing to do so will send the team to the Open Playoffs, from where it will have to fight its way into Cup 1 and beyond. This means that if partner teams fail to perform consistently, they could miss out on all regional and international VCT events in 2027 except Kickoff.
Sentinels Enters A New Chapter After A Challenging Season
Sentinels are undeniably one of the most popular organizations in the scene, with their history dating back to 2021, when the team lifted the trophy at VALORANT’s first Masters event in Reykjavík without dropping a single series. Tyson "TenZ" Ngo was named the tournament MVP and went on to become the face of VALORANT esports.
While Sentinels struggled to replicate similar results over the next two seasons amid multiple roster changes, the organization eventually claimed another Masters title in Madrid in 2024. However, heading into 2026, the team was eliminated early from all VCT Americas events and was unable to make an international appearance throughout the year.
Their roster should go through a rebuild ahead of the VCT 2027 season. According to CEO Rob Moore, announcements will be made within the next two weeks, with the changes claimed to “
break the internet.” It’s unclear which players or coaching staff members Sentinels will retain. However, the organization has extended everyone's contracts until the end of 2028, according to
VCT Global Contract Database. That said, the squad’s Duelist, Gurjiwan "
Jerrwin" Gill, has already been
allowed to explore new opportunities.
