The Play-In Stage of the 2026
League of Legends World Championship is the initial stage leading to the main event. Teams compete in a double-elimination bracket, with all matches played as best-of-five series. A team is eliminated after two losses, and the bracket winner earns the final spot in the Swiss Stage.
How does the Worlds 2026 Play-In bracket work?
The Play-In Stage follows a double-elimination format, giving each team a chance to recover from a loss. Teams that win their opening match advance to the upper bracket, while those that lose drop to the lower bracket, where another loss means elimination.
The format makes every series crucial. Teams in the upper bracket have a second chance if things go wrong, while those in the lower bracket know that another loss will end their Worlds run. With every match played as a best-of-five, teams must win three games to advance.
Which teams are competing in the Play-In Stage?
With only a single spot in the Swiss Stage available, every series carries significant weight. Teams must win the necessary matches to prove that their region deserves another spot in the main event.
The Play-In Stage also gives these regions a chance to test themselves against international opposition before the tournament moves into its Swiss phase. With the stakes so high, each series can determine whether a team's Worlds journey continues or ends, making the bracket an essential reference throughout the opening stage.
