The
League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) regular season came to an end last Sunday, with
finishing at the top of the standings. Only two of the eight teams have been eliminated,
and , while the remaining six will compete in the Playoffs, which will begin on September 12 and conclude on October 4. The competition will first take place at the LCS Studio in Los Angeles before moving to the Gas South Arena in Atlanta for the last week.
The format is exactly the same as the LCK's, with six teams competing in the tournament. LYON and Team Liquid will receive a bye to Round 2, while the Mexican team will have the privilege of choosing their opponent from the winners of the two Round 1 series, which will see Sentinels face FlyQuest and Cloud9 take on Shopify Rebellion.
If G2 Esports have dominated the LEC throughout the year with victories in the Versus and Spring Splits, LYON have done exactly the same in North America, winning both Lock-In and Spring. The team did not perform particularly well at the First Stand, finishing in 5th-6th place, but they completely surprised everyone at the Mid-Season Invitational, securing a top-three finish after eliminating G2 before eventually falling to

head to the Worlds to prove that they can challenge the Asian teams on the biggest stage. A victory would lock them in for Worlds, but not for the Main Event, as only the top two teams will secure a spot in the Main Event, with the third-place team having to go through the Play-In.
