After winning their first-ever EMEA Masters title in Spring, have once again asserted themselves as one of the strongest teams outside the LEC. After finishing second twice this year, losing both times to in LFL finals, the Summer Playoffs finally smiled upon the crew, as they defeated 3-1 to secure their first-ever LFL title.
The victory, however, comes with a bittersweet feeling, particularly amid the uncertainty surrounding the LFL’s future. Last month, news broke that Webedia, the league’s organizer, would step away from running the competition, raising questions over what comes next for France’s top League of Legends league. As a result, while Galions have finally claimed their first LFL title, they could also be the last team to ever lift the trophy under the current format.
A title without Solary
Galions’ victory also came under unusual circumstances, as the team did not have to face their biggest domestic rival once throughout the playoffs. Solary, who had defeated Galions in both of this year’s previous LFL finals, suffered a shock elimination after falling to TLN Pirates and Skillcamp. The back-to-back champions finished the playoffs in 5th-6th place, missing out on the chance to defend their title and leaving the door open for Galions to finally break their finals curse.
Despite Solary’s absence, Galions were able to capitalize on the opportunity and complete what has been an impressive year for the organization. Their latest title adds to their Spring EMEA Masters victory and gives them another chance to establish themselves as one of the strongest teams in the EMEA region.
It is also worth putting Galions’ first LFL title into context. While this is technically the organization’s first championship under the Galions name, the team has a much longer history in the French league. Previously known as Team GO, and GamersOrigin before that, the organization won back-to-back LFL titles in 2020 under its former branding. The achievement is therefore a first for Galions as a name, rather than the organization as a whole.
Setting sail for EMEA Masters
There is little time for Galions to celebrate, however, as the team must now turn its attention towards the EMEA Masters Summer edition, the biggest edition of the tournament this year.
Having already reached the finals in both EMEA Masters editions held this year and winning the Spring tournament, Galions will have the opportunity to further cement their status as one of the region’s top teams. The tournament could prove particularly important should Riot decide to bring back its LEC Versus program in 2027, following the inaugural edition earlier this year that saw and compete against LEC teams in an exclusive kickoff tournament.
With another EMEA Masters title within reach, Galions will be looking to strike while the iron is hot and prove that the LFL remains capable of producing teams that can compete at the very top of European League of Legends.
