6 Things to Know About the 2026 LCK Playoffs

As September begins, the LCK enters a decisive week that will determine the final qualification spots for the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. Following one of the most contested and chaotic regular seasons in recent history, SheepEsports breaks down the key talking points and narratives heading into the 2026 LCK Playoffs.

Prior to the start of the season, the LCK adjusted its format by reducing the regular season from five rounds to four and condensing the playoff schedule from four weeks to three. As a result, matches that traditionally began on Wednesday or Thursday will now kick off on Tuesday with a tighter schedule.

This adjustment accommodates the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Following its inclusion in the previous edition, League of Legends returns as an official medal event. The schedule was adjusted to grant national team members—including Lee "" Sang-hyeok, Choi "" Woo-je, Kim "" Geon-bu, Kim "" Geon-woo, Lee "" Min-hyeong, and Ryu "" Min-seok—sufficient time to enter dedicated training camps. The League of Legends tournament at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games is scheduled to begin on September 29.

Featuring the same six qualified organizations as 2025, the 2026 playoff bracket closely mirrors last year's layout following Round 1 of the Upper Bracket.

While T1 has beaten Hanwha Life Esports in several tournament series over the past three years—including the KeSPA Cup and Road to MSI—the story has been very different in the LCK Playoffs.

T1’s last LCK Playoff win over HLE dates back to the 2024 Spring Lower Bracket Finals. Since then, HLE has taken three straight playoff series against them, alongside a 3-1 victory in their most recent Bo5 match at the 2026 Road to MSI Round 3.

The Best-of-Series history between Dplus KIA and BNK FearX is relatively short, yet it has produced consistently competitive outcomes.

While DK held a clean record against BNK FearX through 2024, BNK FearX took a 3-2 victory in the 2025 Play-In stage. Although DK answered with a win when they met again in the playoffs, BNK FearX secured the 2025 Asia Invitational championship title with another 3-2 victory over DK prior to the World Championship.

The Asia Invitational has expanded this year into the Demacia Cup Global Invitational, featuring participating organizations from the LEC, LCS, and CBLOL. The LCK teams participating in this tournament will include those that fail to qualify for Worlds from the playoffs, HANJIN BRION clinched in 7th place in LCK.

Hanwha Life Esports secured an early qualification to the Swiss Stage of the 2026 World Championship by winning the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational in South Korea, which also ensures that all qualifying LCK seeds will bypass the Play-In Stage entirely.

Meanwhile, regular season leaders Gen.G hold a clear advantage, with the only scenario barring them from a Worlds seed being if both they and HLE lose all of their remaining playoff matches.

Following their Upper Bracket Round 1 victories last weekend, both T1 and KT Rolster need just one more win to guarantee their spots; however, while KT must win on their own merit, T1 can lock in qualification either through a victory or if Gen.G defeats KT on Tuesday due to playoff seeding rules.

Finally, both BNK FearX and Dplus KIA face a steep climb, as each team must win at least two consecutive series—starting with their head-to-head elimination match—to punch their ticket to Worlds.
