Valve's legendary first-person shooter franchise
Counter-Strike 2 has been ruling the esports and streaming scene since its launch in September 2023. However, besides attracting millions of players, it is an attractive target for brands wanting to get into the emerging esports business due to its enormous global following and recognition.
These sponsorships drive the competitive ecosystem, underwriting enormous prize pools, high-end events, and team development. Out of many, several brands stand out for their hefty investment in CS2 competitions, each one with its own tale of involvement, driven by the game's popularity and the prospect of accessing a young, tech-savvy audience.
Red Bull
Red Bull, the international energy drink corporation, has been an explicit sponsor in the Counter-Strike scene since the early 2010s and the Global Offensive era, following its lengthy background with extreme sports and esports.
The corporation sponsors tournaments such as the Red Bull Flick, a 2v2 CS2 tournament introduced in 2021, which gained traction following CS2's release for its innovative format.
Red Bull is interested because it concentrates on high-adrenaline sports, and CS2's intense games resonate with its "gives you wings" philosophy. It also sponsors individuals, such as star AWPer sh1ro, and operates training camps, investing in the competitive circuit. Its investment in CS2 is part of a strategy to reach the game's young, active audience through genuine esports involvement, and the theme of sleepless nights in front of the screen simply fits the image for pro gamers.
Stake
Stake, an online casino and sportsbook, is one of the biggest CS2 sponsors after emerging into the esports scene sometime in 2021. Established in 2017 by Bijan Tehrani and Ed Craven, the company specializes in cryptocurrency-dependent betting that finds favor in CS2's technologically savvy fan base, and them being a pioneer in the field to offer it.
Stake sponsors organizations such as G2 Esports and tournaments such as BLAST Premier, using the game's competitive arena as a platform to build awareness for its betting site. Its role increased with the release of CS2, as the game's revamped graphics and new bet markets, such as CS2 Duels, fit hand in glove with Stake's risk and reward brand.
The push onto the scene has been aggressive, with sponsorships of streamers such as Félix "xQc" Lengyel, and has seen it become a polarizing, if unstoppable presence in the scene. Even though it contributed to the tech-savvy image of the brand, crypto betting did not remain the only facet, since Stake also dabbled in traditional and social casino games, offering all sorts of promotions for new players through bonus codes like additional currencies for all kinds of games from slots to live dealer,
as the review says.
Monster Energy
Another energy drink behemoth from California has been a mainstay of esports sponsorships since the early 2010s, with a robust presence in the early CS: GO as well as Call of Duty.
The brand sponsors events such as IEM Katowice, one of the largest championships for CS2, in partnership with ESL, one of the largest tournament organizers. Monster's incursion is based on the fact that the brand resonates with competitive gaming's late-night, high-octane culture, where gamers require an energy boost amidst long matches.
In 2024, Monster renewed sponsorship of IEM Katowice, including player jerseys and fan experiences. The long-term investment is a testament to the fact that it believes CS2's gritty, high-velocity gameplay represents an optimal fit for its "unleash the beast" ethos.
DHL
The international logistics firm DHL may not be the obvious choice to host CS2, but it has been a good partner since 2018 through its association with ESL.
DHL organizes the intricate transport of gear, trophies, and setups for huge events such as IEM Katowice and ESL Pro League. Its sponsorship started when esports blew up and needed trustworthy worldwide logistics to make LAN competitions possible across continents.
DHL's partnership in CS2 expanded with the game's launch in 2023, as competitions branched out into new regions such as Shanghai. The company also raises the level of fan interest with initiatives like the DHL MVP awards and "DHL Drop" trivia contests, and thus is a vital behind-the-scenes stakeholder in the CS2 setup.
Intel
CPU giant Intel has been a staple of CS2 competitions ever since Counter-Strike began back in the early 2000s.
With its Intel Extreme Masters series, Intel sponsors some of the largest CS2 tournaments, such as IEM Katowice, which shattered viewership records in 2024. The company got involved from the start of PC gaming growth, with its processors powering the rigs that host Counter-Strike's performance-demanding action. Intel's sponsorship of CS2 indicates its interest in promoting bleeding-edge hardware to a tech-savvy fan base.
Through sponsorship of top events and supplying technology to players, Intel makes sure CS2's competitive scene runs smoothly and remains at the cutting edge of game development.
Why These Matter?
These few brands are powering the CS2 competitive scene by injecting the financial and logistical brawn required for expansion.
Their interest, ignited by the game's enormous popularity and cultural relevance, has given shape to CS2 tournaments into worldwide events. By monetizing the excitement around the game, helping with the logistics and tech, these brands are enabling for the events to continue from year to year, and each one has a part to play in the future of both CS2 and Esports in general.
