Riot Games will allocate $500,000 to educational projects at public schools across the United States as part of its ongoing partnership with nonprofit organization DonorsChoose.
Announced on October 12, the initiative returns alongside the
2026 League of Legends Worlds, which runs from October 15 to November 14 in the United States.
The program aims to help teachers bring video games and esports into educational settings by funding projects that might otherwise lack the necessary resources. These initiatives can include setting up school esports clubs, providing equipment for gaming-related activities, and supporting learning opportunities in areas such as coding, science, and technology. Through this initiative,
Riot Games and DonorsChoose seek to make these activities more accessible to students in public schools.
This year's funding will initially target teachers in California, Texas, and New York, the three states hosting Worlds 2026. Eligible projects in California will receive funding starting October 12, followed by projects in Texas on October 19 and New York on November 9. If funds remain after these phases, Riot Games will launch a nationwide donation-matching campaign on December 1 for Giving Tuesday, supporting video game and esports-related projects across the United States.
The initiative builds on
a partnership between Riot Games and DonorsChoose that began in 2023. According to figures shared by the organizations, their joint efforts have already provided more than $1 million in educational resources, benefiting nearly 1,000 teachers and over 110,000 students. DonorsChoose has also reported a 126% increase in funding requests for video game and esports-related projects since the partnership began.
