The best time of the year continues as Worlds 2024's Swiss Stage enters Day 2. Only one of the 16 participating teams will be crowned the
League of Legends Season 14 World Champion. Every day, Sheep Esports brings you key insights into one of the day’s most anticipated matchups. Today, we turn our focus to the clash between
G2 Esports and
Hanwha Life Esports.
Both teams are looking to make their mark on the tournament after securing wins in their opening matches, and this showdown promises to deliver high-level play. G2, after
a dominant year in Europe, are hungry for international success, seeking redemption from last year's heartbreak. HLE, the LCK's unexpected first seed, come into this match in top form. The stage is set for an explosive battle between two creative and strategic powerhouses.
First seeds on the line
Both G2 and HLE won their opening matches without revealing much of their strategies, setting the stage for an intriguing first-ever meeting between the two organizations. G2 come into this match aiming for a deep Worlds run, having spent the entire year preparing for international competition. After dominating Europe and securing all possible titles this season, they are looking for redemption following last year’s disappointing exit, where they were eliminated despite being up 2-0 in the Swiss stage. Meanwhile, HLE, the unexpected first seed from the LCK, are in the best form of their year, and their strong performance adds to the excitement of this encounter. They are widely regarded as one of the top three contenders for the title, making them a formidable test for the Samurais.

Both teams feature highly creative players, excelling not only in drafting but also in playmaking during games. If G2 maintain their approach from their previous match, avoiding lane swaps, we could see explosive early-game action. However, even if a lane swap does occur, G2 have proven themself as the masters of this strategy among Western teams, making the match a potential strategic battle in terms of macro play.
With both sides hinting at additional strategies in post-match interviews, this matchup promises to be a thrilling and unpredictable contest, with surprises likely to unfold on the Rift.
Will chaos take over?
This match is undoubtedly a major test for the entire G2 roster. Both teams excel in chaotic, high-pressure situations and have shown remarkable resilience, often finding ways to turn the tide even when they fall behind. In the midlane, the showdown is particularly compelling: HLE’s Kim "
Zeka" Geon-woo, a young World Champion with DRX two years ago and fresh off his first LCK title, faces G2’s Rasmus "
Caps" Winther, the Western GOAT whose only missing accolade is a Worlds title. Both players are in excellent form, but their contrasting playstyles will be key to the outcome. Zeka has proven dominant on champions like Sylas, Akali, and Yone, while Caps is a more versatile player, equally skilled on control mages and capable of adapting to different situations.

HLE can rely on Han "
Peanut" Wang-ho's creativity in the jungle to set the pace of the game and create opportunities for aggression in key lanes. His ability to control the tempo could be a decisive factor. Meanwhile, the botlane matchup is equally exciting, as Europe’s top ADC, Steven "
Hans Sama" Liv, battles for the first time in his career against Park "
Viper" Do-hyeon, who is widely recognized as the best ADC in the world.
The match is scheduled to begin this Friday at approximately 4 PM CET, following the matches between BLG and LNG, and Gen.G and TES.
