Movistar KOI on the brink of missing their own Roadtrip

With only three matches left for in the 2026 LEC Summer regular season, the Spanish representatives are facing a very real possibility of missing their very own roadtrip. Announced at the start of the year, this second stop in Madrid, following MKOI's Madrid roadtrip last Spring, is set to host the top four teams at the end of the Summer regular season for the first week of playoffs, with Worlds qualification on the line.

With Movistar KOI now sitting at 2-4 in the league, a top-four finish is looking increasingly unlikely, especially after losing the head-to-head against fellow contenders and . Those losses have left the Spanish organization in a difficult position, with their fate no longer entirely in their own hands. To have any chance of making the top four, MKOI will need to win all three of their remaining matches while also relying on other results going their way.

Though the roadtrip initiative remains in its infancy, having only been introduced last summer, a team missing its own roadtrip would mark a first in LEC history. Roadtrips are, in essence, a way for teams to advertise themselves and connect with their fans, allowing them to bring the league to their home cities and give fans across Europe the opportunity to watch LEC games outside of the Berlin studio.

Last year, MKOI and were the first teams to participate in the program, with both organizations hosting a roadtrip during the Summer regular season. This year, however, the program was expanded, and MKOI became the first team to experiment with hosting a roadtrip outside of the regular season, making participation dependent on their results.

In Winter, the Spanish organization hosted the LEC Versus Finals after qualifying for the event, though MKOI were eliminated by KC in their first and only match. This Summer, the squad once again opted to host part of the playoffs, this time the opening round of the Summer bracket. Unlike the LEC Versus Finals, however, their participation is contingent on finishing in the top four, with the fifth- and sixth-placed teams instead starting their playoff run in the lower bracket in Berlin.

Earlier this split, when asked about the possibility of missing the event, told Sheep Esports that "it would suck not being there," to which he then added "It would be disappointing not only to the players, but for MKOI and its fans as well."

With just 6.3% of scenarios pointing to MKOI making the top four according to TAB Esports, the squad now finds itself with its back against the wall, hoping to see its opponents falter and drop points in the standings.

Perhaps most importantly for MKOI will be their match against on Sunday, August 16, which could go a long way toward deciding the Spanish organization's fate. A loss could potentially leave their top-four hopes hanging by a thread, depending on the results elsewhere.

MKOI still have three matches left to turn their season around, but the clock is quickly running out. Their remaining regular-season games will determine whether the organization gets to play in front of its home crowd once again — or whether its own Madrid roadtrip will go ahead without them.

The Summer regular season concludes on August 30, before the LEC heads to Madrid for the first week of Summer playoffs on September 5 and 6. The roadtrip will see the top four teams descend on the Spanish capital, where they will begin their run toward the Summer title and a place at Worlds. The lower-bracket games will then return to Berlin before the surviving teams join the Madrid winners in Nice for the Summer Finals.
