Amid the overwhelming dominance of the Korean teams at this year's
Esports World Cup, one European side is still standing. Following a convincing 2-0 victory over
(Anyone's Legends),
secured their place in the tournament semifinals.
Driven by the support of their home crowd, the French side has shown significant improvement since the start of the event, putting the disappointment of their MSI campaign just a few weeks ago firmly behind them. Before facing T1 in a rematch of their unfortunate MSI Play-Ins meeting, support player
spoke with
Sheep Esports about the team's progress throughout the tournament.
You just made it to the top 4 of the competition. Is this result satisfying enough to make people forget about MSI’s disappointment?
Alan “Busio” Cwalina: “Yes, but for me, the disappointment of MSI is in the past. I forgot about it before we played. You just have the takeaways, and then you move on. There's no reason to dwell on it. So yeah, that's far gone in my memory.
Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert has been criticised for his performance at MSI, but today he made another great series in the tournament. What do you think about his evolution?
Busio: Yeah, his performance was very good today. In terms of evolution, he's playing ADC, so when the team is struggling, it's hard to show good stuff on your own. People criticizing ADC for a very tough MSI showing is a little strange, in my opinion.
We spoke with two players previously, Jeong "" Eon-young and Joo "" Min-kyu who told us they were both impressed or surprised by your performances against them. What do you think about it?
Busio: I'm surprised. Impact makes sense because I played against him yesterday, and I was doing pretty well, but Duro, that one does surprise me. I'm glad he said that because I only played against him once this tournament and I don't think I played very well that game. I guess I like it and respect him, he's a very, very good player.
They both tell us you were really aggressive and putting a lot of pressure on the map. Do you feel like it’s accurate?
Busio: Yeah, I mean that's what I'm trying to do, and that's what you’ve got to do in this meta. If you have an ADC that can be alone, you need to make the most of it.
Your next series will be against T1 in the semi-final tomorrow. Why will it be different from what happened in MSI, according to you?
Busio: It's gonna be different because we're a completely different team. I think every single day we're honestly a different team and MSI was so long ago, so many scrims, so many matches ago. It's a whole new opportunity and we're going to do good.”
