The saga surrounding Park "
Ruler" Jae-hyuk over the past few weeks regarding the tax case has come to an end. This Friday, the
League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) announced that
after investigation, the Gen.G AD Carry
will not be sanctioned, with the league stating after an investigation by its commission that it “
decided not to impose separate sanctions on this matter.”
The LCK stated in its release that the case cannot be considered as involving or equivalent to criminal liability, nor can it be classified as “
immoral acts” or “
degrading acts.” It also noted that the matter had already been settled with the tax authorities, as
had fulfilled his payment obligations, and confirmed that the issue dates back to a period for which the league can no longer impose sanctions.
Ruler’s reaction
A month ago, Ruler also spoke out about the situation in a lengthy post on his Instagram account, apologizing for the situation and providing clarification on the events that have emerged in recent days. In his statement, Ruler shared his version of events, more or less the same as his agency, Supergent, shared on Monday: "I did not intentionally hide or conceal any income. However, two issues arose in the course of managing my assets."
The player stated in his message, once again, that in 2018, his father left his job to focus full-time on his career, handling manager-type responsibilities. "We applied the labor costs for those activities as necessary business expenses, but the National Tax Service did not recognize those as deductible expenses." Regarding the asset management issue, Ruler stated that he has paid the penalties and transferred all shares, previously under his father’s name, into his.
Will Gen.G feel better?
The two are probably unrelated, but Gen.G’s level of play over the past few months has been far from convincing, dating back to their First Stand semifinal loss to G2 Esports. Since returning to the LCK Rounds 1-2, they have lost to KT Rolster,
, and
again, and currently sit tied for fourth place with
.
Hopefully, the final resolution of this situation will allow both the team, and especially Ruler, to fully showcase their potential. The Tigers will play on May 2 against DK, and in a highly stacked LCK Season, the two spots for the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational will be highly contested between HLE, Gen.G, T1, KT, DK, and even
, who recently brought in Nam "
Diable" Dae-geun.
