G2 Esports have been selected as a partner team for the
VCT Americas 2027-28 cycle, sources tell
Sheep Esports. Despite being one of the major organizations, G2 were not selected for the first partnership cycle in 2023, reportedly due to the
controversy surrounding their former CEO and co-founder, Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez.
In 2024, G2 acquired The Guard’s roster after the team qualified for VCT Americas by winning Ascension Americas in 2023. Coming from the Tier 2 circuit, the team went on to dominate regional tournaments while showcasing strong performances at international events as well.
A 2025 domestic Golden Road
Some of G2 Esports’ most notable achievements during the partnership era of
VALORANT esports include winning all three VCT Americas tournaments in 2025. The team also finished second at Masters Bangkok while reaching top three at Masters Shanghai.
That said, the organization has been part of the
VALORANT esports scene since 2020. Most recently, G2 concluded their third
VALORANT Champions campaign, which the players referred to as “
the last dance,” with a strong
top four finish.
Heading into 2027, some of the players will not be part of the roster, including Andrej "
babybay" Francisty, as previously reported by
Sheep Esports. The player will
explore opportunities in VCT China.
Meanwhile, Jacob "
valyn" Batio
will be replaced by Leviatán’s Eduardo "Sato" Nagahama, while Francisco "kiNgg" Aravena
will fill the spot left by babybay and take on the IGLing duties. According to the
VCT Global Contract Database,
Nathan "leaf" Orf and Trent "trent" Cairns, along with head coach Josh "JoshRT" Lee, have contracts running until the end of the 2028 VCT season.
International trophy remains the missing piece
Heading into 2027, G2 Esports will once again be searching for their first international VCT title; however, the path is only
going to get harder. All VCT Americas partner organizations will receive direct invitations to
Kickoff São Paulo, but teams will have to earn their spots at the remaining international events throughout the year.
This means that teams that fail to perform consistently could miss out on every regional and international event after Kickoff Americas. Taking place from January 14 to February 7, the tournament will feature eight partner teams and four
non-partner squads, with the top three advancing to Masters Seoul.
EDIT: A previous version of the article incorrectly stated that Eduardo "Sato" Nagahama is replacing Alexander "jawgemo" Mor. Sato is replacing Jacob "valyn" Batio.
