LOUD has defeated title defender NRG at VALORANT Champions Shanghai to secure its place in the Upper Bracket final. The Brazilian organization took down the North American side 2-1 and sent it down to the Lower Bracket. LOUD will now face Team Vitality in a best-of-five series on October 16 for a spot in the Grand Final.
Following the match, both LOUD and NRG attended the post-match press conferences. The players and coaching staff reflected on the series, Roberto "erde" Lobos’ three consecutive clutch rounds, NRG’s upcoming lower-bracket series against 100 Thieves, and more. Check out the highlights below.
Questions for LOUD
What were your reactions to Roberto "erde" Lobos' three consecutive clutches that essentially sealed the series on Summit and secured your place in the Mercedes-Benz Arena?
Enzo "tkzin" Zimiani: “He's the GOAT, the best IGL in the room. I was thinking, “Oh my God, what is he doing?” He pulled it off three times.”
Lucca "lukxo" Travaioli: “During the third clutch, I was convinced he would win. There was no way he was going to lose that clutch. He's crazy, bro. I was just sitting there like a stone.”
Being an IGL at such a young age isn't easy, but you manage to balance your aim with your in-game calling. How do you do it?
Roberto "erde" Lobos: “My coaches help me a lot with the IGL side of things. I learn from them how to balance my aim and calling. I see myself as a talented and intelligent player who learns quickly, so I guess it's just talent.”
You won two 1v2s and then a 1v4 across three consecutive rounds. Have you ever had a stretch like that before? Can you walk us through what happened?
erde: It's the first time I've done something like this. I guess I was crazy. The comms were really calm, and everyone was helping. During the 1v4, for example, someone told me that if I planted the spike, I could revive someone. I think it was lukxo (Lucca Travaioli). Everyone was supportive during the clutches, which helped me a lot. Nobody was trying to tell me how to play, and I really appreciated that. My teammates are great at giving those kinds of calls, and that made a big difference.”
What went into the decision to leave Summit as the decider, especially given that NRG were undefeated on that map heading into the match?
Gonzalo "Romanilly" Manzano: “They were undefeated on Lotus in São Paulo, too. For me, it doesn't matter whether a team is particularly strong on one map or another. You have to play the maps you're confident on and know you're good at. If you're good on a map, you can beat any team.”
Questions for NRG
You faced your old rival, LOUD, today against whom you had won five of your previous nine meetings. However, you have now lost to them in your last two key matches. From a player’s perspective, how has LOUD improved?
Ethan "Ethan" Arnold: “Their teamfights are really good on both sides. They're always together, and their trades are usually better than those of other teams. They also won a lot of clutches today, which is another strength of theirs. Overall, they played their teamfights really well.
Haven has been one of your strongest maps in VCT Americas Split 2. At one point today, it looked like you might make a comeback, but you ultimately fell short. What were the main reasons behind the loss?
Ethan: I think we overcompensated while trying to adapt to the Viper in their composition in certain rounds, and we lost sight of what made us good on Haven. We also got off to another slow start. Mechanically, we weren't playing well as a team, and our trades weren't great. Our defence was solid for a while, but eventually, things fell apart.
NRG will face 100 Thieves again, having recently lost to them twice. What do you think will be the biggest factor in securing a win this time around?
Ethan: It's about playing with confidence. Today showed what happens when we lack confidence: we get owned. We know what we're capable of, both individually and as a team. If we bring that confidence against any team in the world, not just 100 Thieves, I think we'll win.”
In one of the replays, you were heard saying, “We can't play against their comp like this.” What did you mean by that? What adjustments did you make, and what issues persisted in your approach to LOUD on Summit?
Logan "skuba" Jenkins: “It was really difficult because they were taking sites by walking up and contacting us a lot. I was saying that we needed to play one step deeper and hold them farther away. However, I don't think that made too much of a difference. The main reason we lost Summit was the XvX scenarios. I think we threw at least five rounds in those situations, which is probably why we lost the map.”
