Macko Esports announced on Wednesday on their social media that they are withdrawing from
League of Legends. Antonio Todisco, the CEO of the organization, explained in a lengthy statement that after five years of collaboration with Riot Games on the game, they are forced to put their
League of Legends journey on hold. While they do not rule out the possibility of returning to the scene in the future, they are currently financially obligated to step away.
As a result, the Winter Split champions, which has just came out of the EMEA Masters Winter tournament, will be absent for the remainder of the season, leaving the already struggling league with only five teams for the Spring Split. This news comes just one week before the competition is set to resume. The Italian league continues to send increasingly negative signals.
Macko had scrimmed live on Twitch against NORD Esports just the day before the announcement, as indicated by midlaner Mike "Furuy" Wils on X, making the news even more surprising. In just a few hours, the players went from joy to sorrow, having learned right after their scrims that they would find themselves without a team overnight.
