FUT yetujey: "I’m so sad about the Heretics fans because they were all cheering for us"

This Friday in Barcelona, FUT Esports fell 2-0 to Karmine Corp in the Upper Bracket Final of VCT EMEA Stage 2. Although the Turkish team had already secured their spot at Champions before the match, the result allowed the Blue Wall to book their ticket to the VALORANT World Championship, while simultaneously putting an end to Team Heretics’ hopes of qualifying.

FUT will nevertheless have a chance to get their revenge against KC in the grand final on Sunday. To do so, they will first have to overcome Team Liquid in the Lower Bracket Final on Saturday. A few minutes after the defeat to KC, Eray "yetujey" Budak spoke to Sheep Esports. The Controller reflected on the result, discussed the areas the team needs to improve on, and looked ahead to what awaits FUT in the remainder of the tournament.

Eray "yetujey" Budak: Karmine Corp are always good against us. I guess it’s like Heretics, because they always counter our game plan, and Karmine Corp did the same today. Sometimes you can’t follow your rules; you just need to adapt to the enemy. Karmine Corp play a different style, and we just couldn’t adapt. They just beat us.

yetujey: Actually, of course, changing the coach looks like it gave them some confidence. Normally, they were following Engh (Andrey Sholokhov), but now they have more freedom in the game, and I guess it’s better for them. N4RRATE (Marshall Massey) and LewN (Burak Alkan) were really good today; they just shot us every time. About the game style, we can, of course, show the level that we showed at Masters and Stage 2, but I don’t know. It’s more about us, actually.

yetujey: I don’t think so. For us, whenever we play tournaments, we don’t care whether we’ve already qualified or not. We just want to win. We just want to beat everyone. But today, I’m so sad about the Heretics fans because they were all cheering for us, and I was so hyped about that. I’m so sorry about that, and also sorry to the Turkish fans. I love them.

yetujey: We should improve our map pool, because we haven’t shown Abyss yet. And on Sunset, it’s always changing because our comp is more aggressive. After the first game, people can understand and expect us to play aggressively. Our timeouts especially weren’t good. After the timeouts, we always do some ult rounds, and people can just expect that. Especially on Lotus B, we were running B site with an Omen ult, and they just triple-peeked B and fought us. The round was over after ten seconds. Even if you’re a normal ranked player, you can expect that if there’s a timeout or something and they have ultimates, they’ll try to do an ult round. So we should do something more unexpected.

We need to adapt our game style. We always need to change our game style sometimes. If we don’t even try anything, maybe when we play against Karmine Corp, they have a different game style and we just have to change it. We can’t keep trying to do something we’ve already tried. We need to do something unexpected, because when people watch us, they can always see that we’re following our rules. Sometimes we just need to play with more freedom or something, I guess.

yetujey: First of all, I love both teams because they’re always nice people. We also share our office with Fire Flux at the event, so we know them, and they’re our companions. They’re very funny and kind people. Sometimes we’ve practiced against each other, and it was very close every time, so it will be a banger match if they win today. But if Liquid win, it will be okay for us as well, because I always like to play against nAts (Ayaz Akhmetshin). I have so much respect for him. He is a guy and the god of the game, actually. I don’t care who’s going to win. We will try to reach the Grand Final, of course. But if Fire Flux can make it, at least after tomorrow’s game we can let one Turkish team go to the Grand Final. So I will cheer for Fire Flux today. I’m sorry.”
