One game, much the same story for in the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage. Just as they did against G2 Esports on Friday, the Esports World Cup champions struggled in the early game against T1 on Saturday, before turning the game on its head with a single teamfight to secure the win. With two wins and three losses, DK now have three opportunities to secure a place in the playoffs of League of Legends’ premier tournament, and will fire their first shot this Sunday against Movistar KOI.
A few minutes after taking down the reigning three-time world champions, spoke to Sheep Esports. Dplus KIA’s iconic midlaner reflected on his team’s resilience and on what winning the EWC has brought to this roster, which is now well-positioned to advance to the next stage of the competition.
On the first day, you defeated Rasmus “Caps” Winther, and on the second day, you beat Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. Both are inductees into the Hall of Legends. How would you feel if a player like Jian “Uzi” Zihao unexpectedly appeared as your opponent tomorrow, meaning you would have faced Hall of Legends-level players three games in a row?
Heo “ShowMaker” Su: “I would probably be a little taken aback if Uzi suddenly showed up, but he was such an incredible player during his playing career that I think it would make for a great matchup.
Could we interpret that as a hint that you might be the next player inducted into the Hall of Legends?
ShowMaker: [Laughs] I would be absolutely delighted to be inducted, but I don't think it's my turn just yet. I still need to build on my career and achieve more before I can earn that honor in the future.
You're known for your cheerful personality and were even voted the funniest professional player by your fellow players. How do you switch into serious mode for high-pressure, high-stakes matches like those at the World Championship?
ShowMaker: When I'm on stage or playing the game, I try to stay focused and composed. Outside of the game, whether I'm doing interviews or just interacting with people, I'm really grateful that the fans find me entertaining, so I try to smile as much as possible and maintain a cheerful attitude.
In two consecutive matches, you came back from difficult positions with exceptional team-fighting and coordination to secure comeback victories. Where does Dplus KIA's resilience come from?
ShowMaker: I think the key is that all five of us firmly believe that we can win, no matter what. We've also secured a lot of comeback victories on our way to this World Championship, and those experiences have helped us tremendously.
Is your ability to stay composed when you're behind mainly the result of those recent comeback victories, or does it come from the game sense and judgment you've developed over your long career?
ShowMaker: Our recent experience of actually pulling off so many comebacks has given the team a huge boost. Personally, throughout my career, I've played countless games and accumulated a great deal of experience. That experience helps both my teammates and me recognize opportunities to turn games around, including when I'm making calls. So I think both factors are important.
At the 2024 World Championship, Dplus KIA also started the Swiss Stage with a 2–0 record but failed to qualify for the quarterfinals. What sets this year's roster apart from that team?
ShowMaker: When we started 2–0 in 2024 but ultimately failed to advance, we hadn't really achieved much in our careers as a team. In contrast, this 2026 roster has already won the Esports World Cup and played in a lot of high-stakes matches on the biggest stages. I think that experience at major tournaments makes me feel that we can get through the Swiss Stage this time.
At the Esports World Cup, you had the opportunity to face teams from various regions with different playstyles. This time, however, you faced T1, a familiar opponent from the LCK. How did your preparation differ?
ShowMaker: The Swiss Stage moves quickly, and there wasn't much time between the draw being finalized and the match itself. Since T1 is a team we've faced frequently in the LCK, we focused our analysis largely on what we'd learned from those previous encounters. In terms of drafting, we concentrated on denying T1 the picks they favor and are particularly good at playing.
When you won the Esports World Cup, you even received congratulations from famous football players. If you win this year's World Championship, is there a celebrity you'd like to connect with?
ShowMaker: No particular celebrity comes to mind right now. Rather than hearing from famous people, I'd really like to receive heartfelt congratulations from the fans who genuinely support me and our team.
As the team's senior player, what would you promise to do for your younger teammates if you win the tournament?
ShowMaker: I'd take them anywhere they wanted to go. I'd cover all the expenses myself, whether that meant treating them to a delicious meal or taking them to do all kinds of activities. Whatever they wanted, I'd make it happen.”
