T1 Oner: "Gen.G is probably the trickiest team to face"
Following T1's win over Dplus, Oner reflected on the series, discussed the academy's performances at the KeSPA Cup, and shared his thoughts on what lies ahead.

"Botlane really took the lead and played out of their minds"
reinforced that display on Thursday by convincingly defeating the team that had appeared to establish itself at the top of the global hierarchy in recent weeks, Dplus KIA. The reigning three-time world champions secured a commanding 2–0 victory to the Esports World Cup winner, propelled in large part by a simply phenomenal performance from Kim "Peyz" Soo-hwan.
spoke with Sheep Esports. The T1 jungler reflected on the series, discussed T1 Esports Academy's performances at the KeSPA Cup, and shared his thoughts on what lies ahead.
Could you share your thoughts on the victory along with an overall review of today's match?
Moon "Oner" Hyeon-jun: "I'm really happy we won today. DK has been on good momentum lately, so I was a little worried, but our team's condition felt really good today, and I'm just glad we closed it out cleanly 2-0.
How do you see the key factor behind today's win?
Oner: I think everyone played well for the most part, but it felt like a day where botlane really took the lead and played out of their minds, so I'd say botlane stood out the most.
In the draft this set, many people probably didn't expect T1's last pick to be Sejuani. What was the thinking behind that pick?
Oner: Well, we felt our comp needed some kind of tank, and while it's not exactly a pick that fits the current meta, I've always believed it's a pick you can bring out in any meta. The angle looked good today, so we went for it.
You're famous for a style that shakes the game from the early stages with picks like Lee Sin or Xin Zhao. With that style in mind, Sejuani seemed like a surprising choice. Did you pick it because you wanted to play it, or did it come out of fitting the composition?
Oner: [Laughs] It was a bit of a lower priority, but it was something I kept in mind the whole time. The picks we wanted were either banned or looked shaky, so we rounded out the last position with Sejuani.
A few junglers have pulled out Shyvana recently, but opinions are split, with some saying her early game is too weak. How do you rate Shyvana in the current meta?
Oner: I think Shyvana is a champion that demands a really high level of understanding between the player and the team, so just slotting her into a draft is difficult. But if you truly understand the champion and play around her properly, I think she can definitely show up in games.
Before the match started, you were seen sharing a big smile with Choi "Lucid" Yong-hyeok. Could you tell us what you two talked about?
Oner: With Yong-hyeok, we're pretty close, so we always fist bump with a smile. What we always tell each other is something like, go easy on me today. It's the same every time, so we were just laughing and joking around like that.
You recently beat Hanwha Life Esports in the KeSPA Cup. Could you share your thoughts on that match as well?
Oner: Well, since it was the KeSPA Cup, there wasn't the same tension as a regular season match, but the fact that we got the win without dropping it means a lot, so I'm really happy about it. And since our next opponent is Hanwha again, we'll have to prepare well.
T1 Challengers drew a lot of attention recently by taking down LCK teams in the KeSPA Cup. Did you happen to watch those matches?
Oner: Yes, I watched a lot of them. The T1 Challengers players did so well that we could cruise through, play fewer matches, and manage our condition, so I'm really thankful to them.
Was there a player among them who especially caught your eye?
Oner: Honestly, I think all the T1 Challengers players are just that good, so they all stood out to me. Yeah, every one of them caught my eye.
You're currently sitting in first place in the Legend Group. Looking across both scrims and official matches, and excluding T1, which of the four teams feels the trickiest to face in game?
Oner: Honestly, I think if we just play well, there's no team that feels tricky. That said,
showed a lot of really strong performances in the regular season, and even though they hit a small losing streak recently, they climbed right back up in the end. So I'd say Gen.G is probably the trickiest.
Your next match is against Hanwha again. Riding the momentum from the KeSPA Cup win, do you expect the same result this Saturday? How much confidence do you have?
Oner: I think we can absolutely win. I believe we have the better momentum right now, so as long as our condition is fine on the day, I think we can win 2-1, or even 2-0.
Next week is T1 Home Ground, which so many fans have been waiting for. With everything from a concert to matches on the schedule, which part are you looking forward to the most?
Oner: As a player, the competition obviously comes first. Just getting to compete in front of that many people is such a joy, so I'm really happy about that part. And I hope the fans enjoy the matches and then get to fully enjoy the fan meeting and the performances afterward. I think they'll come away with some really fun memories and experiences.
There probably isn't anyone who doesn't know you, but if you could show someone just one of your games, which one would you pick?
Oner: I think my debut is what stays with me the most. Was it 2021? That Diana game still keeps coming back to me, so I'd want to show that moment.
