T1 and 100 Thieves have eliminated Paper Rex and Nongshim RedForce from VALORANT Champions Shanghai. With that, only the fourth seeds from the Pacific and EMEA regions remain standing as their regions' last hopes, while all the other remaining teams are from the Americas.
Both teams defeated their opponents 2-1 in the lower bracket of the playoffs to stay alive in the tournament. T1 completed a jaw-dropping comeback on the final map to end Paper Rex’s campaign, while Nongshim RedForce managed to push its series against 100 Thieves to a decider before being dismantled on the final map.
The 9-3 curse strikes again
T1 opened the series with a dominant 13-7 victory on Lotus, with Byeon "Munchkin" Sang-beom and Kim "Meteor" Tae-oh delivering impressive performances to put Paper Rex under pressure early in the elimination match. However, the trio of Adrian "invy" Reyes, Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto, and Ilia "something" Petrov stepped up on Ascent, helping PRX secure a 13-6 win to level the series and force a decider.
Paper Rex carried that momentum into Summit to put T1 on the back foot by closing out the first half with a 9-3 lead before winning the second-half pistol round. However, T1's Initiator Ham "iZu" Woo-Joo proved to be an unstoppable force as he led his team to one of the most memorable comebacks of his career. PRX managed to secure only one more round, that too because of a 1v3 clutch from d4v41, before T1 closed out the map 13-11.
iZu was the only T1 player to finish with a positive KDA on Summit and he was also named the MVP of the series with a 1.15 rating and 290 ACS.
100T dismantle Nongshim on Ascent
100 Thieves dropped to the lower bracket after suffering a 2-0 defeat to G2 Esports. However, the team is still one of the top contenders for the trophy and demonstrated exactly why against Nongshim RedForce.
The first map, Split, was a comfortable 13-5 win for 100T, while the first half of Sunset was much more competitive, ending in a 6-6 tie. However, after switching to the attacking side, Nongshim RedForce was well-disciplined and creative with its executes. 100 Thieves couldn’t find the answer to it, and NS secured a 13-9 victory to push the series to a decider on Ascent.
Ascent turned into a nightmare for Nongshim RedForce, as the Pacific representative managed to win just one round before 100T closed out the map with a 13-1 victory. 100T's sentinel player, Matthew "Cryocells" Panganiban, was the MVP of the series, finishing with a 1.41 rating and 253 ACS.
