How to uninstall League of Legends?

Whether you are taking a break from the Rift, freeing up disk space or preparing for a clean reinstall, removing League of Legends properly helps avoid leftover files and future launcher issues. The process is straightforward on both Windows and Mac, but it is important to close the Riot Client and any related services before you begin so the uninstaller can run without interference.

Start by making sure League of Legends and the Riot Client are fully closed. Check the system tray in the bottom‑right corner of Windows, right‑click the Riot Client icon and choose Exit. If the client refuses to close, open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, find any Riot‑related processes such as Riot Client, RiotClientServices or RiotClientCrashHandler, and end them manually.

Once everything is shut down, press Windows + I to open Settings and go to Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & features on older versions). Scroll through the list until you find League of Legends, click the three‑dot menu or Uninstall button and follow the prompts. Windows will run Riot’s uninstaller and remove the core game files.

If you want a completely clean removal, you should also remove Riot Vanguard and the Riot Client itself. In the same Installed apps list, locate Riot Vanguard and Riot Client and uninstall them in that order. For Vanguard, a restart is required before the anti‑cheat is fully removed from the system. After rebooting, you can delete any remaining Riot folders by opening File Explorer (Windows + E) and checking locations such as:

Deleting these folders and emptying the Recycle Bin will clear most leftover data.

You can also uninstall League of Legends directly through the Riot Client if you prefer. Open the client, click your profile icon in the top‑right, select Settings, choose League of Legends from the left sidebar and click Uninstall. The client will handle the removal, after which you can still follow the manual cleanup steps above if you want to erase every trace of the game.

On macOS, begin by quitting League of Legends and the Riot Client. Use Command + Option + Esc if you need to force‑quit any lingering Riot processes. Open Finder, go to the Applications folder and drag League of Legends to the Trash. For a deeper clean, press Command + Shift + G, enter /Users/Shared/Riot Games, and move the Riot Games folder to the Trash as well. Empty the Trash and restart your Mac to finish the process.
