After a disappointing LCS season and missing out on Worlds in 2025, finally turned their fortunes around to win LCS 2026 Summer. The North American team will enter Worlds 2026 as the first seed, earning direct entry into the Swiss Stage. Team Liquid will begin their campaign against on October 23, with the pressure high, especially given that it will be a Bo1 match.
Lim "" Hyeon-seung has played a crucial role in the team's success so far. As Team Liquid steps onto the Worlds 2026 stage, Sheep Esports spoke with the mid laner about the roster's confidence, expectations, approach heading into the tournament, and more.
Is this your first time here in Texas?
Lim "Quid" Hyeon-seung: “Actually, we played here last year when we were competing in the LTA. I don't remember if it was Split 2 or Split 3, but we played on this stage.
Oh, you played on this same stage?
Quid: Yeah, once, during the playoffs.
Do you remember anything from that trip? Was there any food you tried or anything you'd like to experience again this time?
Quid: I had Texas barbecue here and it was really nice. We actually had it again last night.
Was it good?
Quid: I think it was slightly worse than the first time, but it was still pretty good.
We're back at Worlds, and Team Liquid finally overcame the odds to win a championship. Do you remember the slogan the team had during the playoffs? It was a phrase (Sean Sung) said a lot.
Quid: Ah, "We are so fucking [sic] due."
So, you were finally due and you finally won a trophy. However, Team Liquid has never made it out of the Swiss Stage or Group Stage at Worlds before. What makes this the year you finally qualify for the knockouts?
Quid: I think we're a well-connected team this year. We've kept improving throughout the year, and I would say we're a pretty good team. On the international stage, everyone is individually skilled and you need to perform well individually to play well as a team. At Worlds or MSI, the opponents are much stronger than the teams we usually face in the LCS. If we can perform well in the early game, we can showcase our mid-game and late-game macro, and then we'll be fine.
Now that you're facing stronger opponents, what else does Team Liquid need to do to gain an advantage?
Quid: I think we need to make sure we don't get caught by cheese plays in the early game. If you get caught by a gank or die to a random level-two or level-three gank, you lose confidence, and your play naturally becomes more passive rather than aggressive. We need to make sure we don't fall for those kinds of plays early on. I think we have good laners, so we should be fine.
In an interview, your coach, Spawn (Jake Tiberi), mentioned to Caedrel (Marc Lamont) that there's quiet confidence, which you don't necessarily talk about publicly, and loud confidence, which you show when you need to step up. How do you distinguish between these two types of confidence?
Quid: I would say quiet confidence is about building trust in each other during scrims. You don't need to talk about it publicly. If you practice well, you naturally build confidence in each other. Loud confidence is more about interviews and public appearances, where you show that you believe in your team.
When you're facing stronger teams, when do you need quiet confidence, and when do you need loud confidence?
Quid: Quiet confidence is important in scrims. So far, I think I've done quite a bad job of building it because I've been trying to lane against many different mid laners and limit-test. Recently, I've been dying a lot, and when we lose, it's usually because of something that happens in the mid game. I'm falling too far behind, so I might be losing trust in myself, or my teammates might be losing confidence in me.
I just need to keep limit-testing and learning what other mid laners play. Then I think the quiet confidence will come. Loud confidence is more about us as a team. We keep talking about how we're the better team, or, rather, that we should have fun. That way, we can show what we've been building throughout the year.
In the same interview, Spawn says that (Jo Yong-in) thinks that the team who learns to cheat the rules of League of Legends will become the best team. Without revealing any strategies, what have you identified as ways to break those rules and gain an advantage?
Quid: I think it's about recognizing certain moments in-game when you feel like you can break a rule to make a game-winning play. Sometimes, you can ignore the usual rules and play your own game or follow your own plan. I'm not sure when those moments come; they happen naturally. When I feel like I can break a rule and make a play, I think that play can be better than simply following the rules we have.
You drew CFO in Round 1. How do you feel about the matchup, and how confident are you heading into your first game at this World Championship?
Quid: I think we had a pretty good draw, but CFO probably feels the same way [laughs]. I'm confident, although they're an aggressive team that looks for a lot of anger in the early game and keeps fighting. We need to be careful about when we choose to fight and make sure we're ready and properly positioned whenever we commit to one.
Expectations for North America are high, despite C9's unfortunate result. This feels like a do-or-die moment for the region. What would you like to say to the fans, and what can they look forward to from Team Liquid?
Quid: I think we and Lyon are both strong teams this year. If we have fun on stage and give it our best, I think we can achieve good results at Worlds. So, keep cheering for us, and let's enjoy this Worlds together.
This year's Worlds motto is "This Is Our Moment." Why is this Quid's moment?
Quid: Because I enjoy playing with this roster. This is my third time at Worlds, and I've never made it past the Swiss Stage. So, I guess we're due!”
