Rex Regum Qeon are laying the groundwork for next seasonâs roster. The Indonesian team was recently selected to retain its partnership slot in
VCT Pacific. As a result, the organisation is making changes ahead of the upcoming season, starting with the arrival of a new coach. According to sources close to
Sheep Esports, Daniel â
Fadedâ Hwang is set to become the teamâs next head coach.
The change comes during the offseason following a largely disappointing year for the organisation, which parted ways with its coach, Jovanni âJoviâ Vera, around a month ago. The American coach is also coming off a difficult year as an assistant coach at Evil Geniuses. By joining RRQ, he will experience a third VCT region, having also served as head coach of Team Vitality in 2025.
A need for a fresh start
Throughout their first four years in VCT Pacific, RRQ have spent most of their time in the middle of the standings. The only exception came in 2025, when the team won Stage 1 in its region before qualifying for Masters Toronto and VALORANT Champions. The organisation hoped to build on that momentum this season, but the teamâs start to the year made it clear that things would be difficult. RRQ had three opportunities to qualify for Masters Santiago, each in a decisive match, but ultimately fell to Nongshim RedForce, T1 and then Paper Rex.
The rest of the season proved no more successful, as RRQ missed Masters London before suffering an early exit at the Esports World Cup despite qualifying for the event. After losing twice in the play-ins, the team finished among the first four teams eliminated from its region, bringing its season to an end in August.
While no roster changes have been announced so far, the team are beginning their offseason by appointing a new coach. Given the roster regulations for the upcoming season, the team will need to assemble a predominantly Indonesian roster, which may allow for the retention of some of its current members. Faded brings head coaching experience from his previous roles at TSM, Team Vitality and Evil Geniuses Academy, before moving into an assistant coaching position under Christine âpotterâ Chi. He will now bring his experience to a new region as he looks to get RRQâs project back on track.
