After pulling off an upset against in their opening match of the tournament, have made the perfect start to their campaign. A year after their memorable run captured the hearts of fans, CFO are showing that their return to the biggest stage in competition was no fluke.
Among the players returning from last yearâs roster, toplaner stands out as a veteran with plenty of experience on the international stage. With the team set to face Movistar KOI in their second match, the Taiwanese player spoke to Sheep Esports about CFOâs opening game.
Why did you leave Brandon "Josedeodo" Villegas's Lee Sin open despite his reputation on the champion?
Hsu âRestâ Shih-Chieh: âOur coach is very fluent in English, so we did thorough research, and we know he's really good at Lee Sin. However, Qiyana was open, which is one of best champions. We were confident that we could take him down even if we gave him Lee Sin.
Who made the call to invade Team Liquid's red-side jungle in the early game?
Rest: It was obviously all Shadow. He kept telling us to look out for level 2. Given his experience, he's a lot less nervous on the big stage.
During split 3, you had a 51% counter pick rate. You decided to blind pick Rumble, which is your most played champion. Why was it important to leave last pick for your botlane?
Rest: We are a team that likes giving counter pick to our botlane. Obviously, this patch, Rumble and Olaf are among the strongest top laners, so that's why I decided to pick it, simply because it was open.
You werenât surprised by Galio because you've faced it before in the LCP. Who pressures you the most between TSW Nguyá» n "Pun" ÄÄng Khoa or TL Park "Morgan" Ru-han right now?
Rest: I felt rather equal pressure from both of them. I think when I'm playing Rumble against a Galio, I have to play very passively, and today Morgan played really well on his Galio.
Did you notice any differences between their playstyles, or were they pretty similar?
Rest: I would say that during the laning phase, it's pretty similar. Galio is a very teamfight-oriented champion. The difference really comes later in the game during those phases.
What made the difference in the end against Team Liquid, and how much credit goes to Shadow versus the team's composure?
Rest: I do want to give most of the credit to Shadow. He got a lead pretty much from the early game to the late game, but I also want to shout out my teammates, who managed to stay calm throughout the process. Some of us have never played at Worlds before, and others have not been here in a long time, so shout-out to them.
How did the team coordinate the Dragon Soul fight to prevent a steal? Who took the lead in communicating the engage?
Rest: One little trick that we do is pay attention to the dragon until it gets around 2,000 or 3,000 HP. Once that happens, we start initiating a team fight with a champion that can do that, which is Alistar in this scenario, and also keep a very close eye on the opponent's jungler.
Ever since 2025, you've been in the face of making North America cry. Now that you've beaten NA in front of their own fans, would you say you're the North American slayer?
Rest: I would probably agree if this was last year. But I think this year, we're kind of still figuring things out. We're still kind of working on our team cohesion. And also, it was a best-of-one. Anything could happen. So, yeah, Iâm not sure I could be called that.
The 2026 World Championship motto is âThis Is Our Moment.â Why is this your moment?
Rest: Because we are CFO!
Do you have anything to say to your fans back home?
Rest: Thank you guys so much for waking up early to watch our games. I know the time difference is very drastic right now, and I know it's very hard to wake up. So, thank you guys so much for doing that.â
