FUT Esports has been eliminated from VALORANT Champions Shanghai after a 2-0 loss to T1 in the elimination match. While the Turkish organisation managed to win only one series at the event, the 2026 VCT season was still a decent one for the roster.
The team secured top-three finishes in both EMEA Stage 1 and Stage 2, along with a top-five finish at Masters London, despite going winless in Kickoff. Following the defeat against T1, FUT Esports duelist Efe "s0pp" Tur spoke with Sheep Esports about the team’s Champions journey, the future of the roster, his favourite moments in Shanghai, and more.
How are you feeling and what are your immediate thoughts on the game?
Efe "s0pp" Tur: “I don’t really feel anything because I think we did well with what we had. We did our best to win, but with this roster, I think that was all we could have done. We could have made the top eight, but I think we reached our potential. If you ask anyone on the team, they’ll agree with me. Obviously, I’m sad because we could have won, but I didn’t have very high expectations. So I think it’s okay. I just tried to have fun.
You had advantage in multiple rounds on both maps. However, you lost some crucial rounds that cost you the game. Why do you think that happened?
s0pp: Maybe we weren’t really locked in because it was an elimination game or maybe we just didn’t play at 100%, I’m pretty sure of that. Maybe we felt the pressure because it was an elimination game. Even if we had played at 100%, we could have made the playoffs. In the best-case scenario, I think we could have finished in the top four. But it’s a game and sometimes you’re just not meant to win on certain days, and that’s okay. We’ve won so many weird rounds and games in the past, both in London and EMEA. I’m not fully sad about how we can make mistakes, our opponents can make mistakes too.
This was also your first year in VCT, and you’ve already achieved a lot, including top-three finishes in Stage 1 and Stage 2, as well as two international appearances, including Champions. How much does it mean to you personally?
s0pp: I was expecting to be here, but not with this team. I was at Ascension with ULF, but I had some problems with the players, so I wanted to leave. I wasn’t really expecting this when we first qualified through Ascension. Also, I was expecting to make Masters London and when we qualified for Masters, I thought, “Yeah, we can qualify for Champs.” But I didn’t expect that we could make it this far or maybe even lift the trophy.
Everyone on the team has different playstyles and different mindsets about VALORANT, so I knew that would make our job harder. Being at Champions at 18 wasn’t something I expected. But when I showed the others how I play, I started believing in myself more and more. I’m just grateful to be here and I’m trying to enjoy it.
Did you face any tech issues today?
s0pp: No, we didn’t have any tech issues. Everything was fine. We just played like shit. [laughs]
Is Leo Faria still blocked by you on X (formerly Twitter)?
s0pp: Yes.
Looking ahead, what will the Offseason look like for you and the team?
s0pp: I don’t know if I can say, but I don’t know how it’s going to be because I feel like we’re going to make roster and staff changes. That’s what I think, and I think everyone feels the same way. Like I said earlier, everyone has a different game style and mindset about VALORANT, which makes our job harder.
But even with that, we made it to Champs, so the roster changes might not happen actually. But if you ask me, I think some people or maybe even me, could leave. I don’t know, but changes are going to happen.
What was your most memorable moment at Champions?
s0pp: First of all, Shanghai is a really good city. I wasn’t expecting this. The most memorable moment was when we went to the mall about a week ago, I think with sociablEE (Volkan Yonal) and KROSTALY (Okan Alaçam). People recognised me and started asking for pictures. We bought some clothes and got a coffee. Then I saw around 100 or 200 people in front of me.
There was a line, and they were taking pictures and videos of me. We then went to a coffee shop to order something, and around 40 or 50 fans came inside asking for pictures. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life, even in Turkey. I think Shanghai is different in that way. I’d also really like to play in the Chinese region one day, so maybe I’ll come back here.”
